Our previous model with exactly the same programming procedure the heating setting was the key control. Fortunately as I was no longer struggling with worn-out buttons and a dead internal battery, putting in the settings I wanted was much quicker than with the old device. I got this as a replacement for an identical controller, due to the battery having run out on the previous unit. We inherited an older one of the same model which I found very difficult to use: the buttons took a very long time to react, and every time there was a tiny power cut or surge the device would lose the programming which had taken me ages to enter.

Takes a bit of navigation through the menus but very easy to program once you get used to what the buttons do. You can have these times different for each day, or can have them the same each day, which is a bit easier and takes less time to set up. Once the unit is put together it is extremely difficult to prise apart, so don't clip together until in its final place on the wall and the wiring has been completed, it is possible to part clip it in place to check everything is working prior to final installation, but overall very pleased with my purchase, good instructions with alternative wiring for replacing your present unit.

Hopefully, since the device should no longer keep losing its settings I won't have to set the timings again for quite a while. But after speaking to Horstmann because there was no wiring diagram in the box they informed I needed to use all the terminals. Just be aware that the contacts between the backplate and the programmer are very tight as supplied and it takes a forceful tug to get the unit off again once fitted (which is what stumped the builders! The new timer works perfectly well, but I know I will be facing the flat battery issue again in 7 years or so.
