The characters are wonderful and well defined but this story is just not big enough to fill a whole novel - the effect of this is that the idea goes round in circles too many times.To make matters worse, even if he can wrangle his brothers together for a feast, the Can-Am people have assimilated, and the only living Cannibal who knows how to perform the ancient ritual is their Uncle Ishmael, a far from reliable guide. The book is very funny and the premise is very clever but the joke is taken so far that it ends up being repeated too many times.
