About this deal

Katy Watson is the most perfect scene setter, so much so that I felt like I was at Ty Gwyn solving these murders myself. I read the first book and so understood the references to it but if you haven’t and just want to dive right in here then no problem either. This was a fabulous read and just my cup of tea - a classic Christie style book with a modern feel and a plot that throws red herrings at you and keeps you guessing to the end.

Each of the three leads is given narrative focus at different points in the novel and Watson moves between these with ease, really building a remarkable amount of intrigue and tension. I enjoyed the first book in the series and loved coming back to some of my favorite characters… I will be waiting with bated breath for the third installment. It's always a little nervewracking heading into the second book of a series when the first book set the standard so high but I needn't have worrried, we are.

Soon there is the possible threat of murder, followed by a suspicious death, and then we are wrapped up in a wonderful Christie-esque murder mystery with just the right amount of modern spin. In between filming scenes, signing autographs for locals, photoshoots on set and jetting off to France for an impromptu party, the three Dahlias do what they do best - surreptitiously sleuth.

He is arrested for her murder and there is an additional fight to prove his innocence, which is not easy when Kit’s car is seen on cctv at the time of the incident. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The way she is described in the first book and until the page where they visit Brigitte in London, that lady never touched a biscuit - if anything, Caro would be the one hoping for biscuits with tea.He escaped and covered up all of the evidence of his wrongdoing, so out of guilt, Brigette picks up the mental of the judge. Ex child star Posy Starling is finally filming her dream role – Dahlia Lively in The Lady Detective movie. An avid reader and notebook collector, her dream was to combine the two hobbies by becoming an author and, after spending her teenage years reading paperback Christies on rainy Welsh caravan holidays, it seemed inevitable that one day she'd try writing her own crime novel. We are also trying to tackle a pretty heavy subject here, where an old actor used to drug and rape young actresses. I'm not sure how much longer the conceit can hold, and I'm not sure how interested I'll be if these shift to being One Dahlia mysteries instead of Three, but I'm definitely planning to give the next one a shot.

But the film set soon turns sinister when Rosalind receives death threats and is nearly killed when the prop knife on set is swapped for a real knife. I've read an interview where the author said she wrote this in 2020, but it was released only in 2022. As a death rocks the production, the Dahlias turn sleuth, with a storm raging, there is more murder and they are cut off from help. I loved the little touches that showed the bond between the three Dahlias and that they genuinely care for each other. The book follows on from the first book in this series, The Three Dahlias and there are several references to the events in the previous book. And the plot is a light, quirky tale full of misdirection, deduction, clues, mishaps, drama, friendship, amateur sleuthing, red herrings, and murder. It was lovely to see Posy really coming into her own and being the leading Dahlia in the story as well
