About this deal

Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you’ll never have to do it again. The thing that most stuck me about this book was the immense respect that the author, (who feels like my friend after reading this, a gentle companion through this process), shows to all possessions. Helping with real tasks is a natural progression from pretend play, and is a crucial stage in a child’s development.

It is about 2 friends who tidy together, and shows how tidying up your home can create space for joy in all parts of your life. I’ve kept a journal since I was a teenager, and while I instinctively turn to it during periods when I feel confused or stressed, or need to make some sort of major life decision. Leaf is a pioneer in neuroscience and mental health, and I recommend this for everyone interested in creating their own destiny. Having an alcoholic in my family tree, someone who was normally fun, funny, caring, loving and with a good work ethic, I know (from family reports) that the person had a true addiction or he would never have allowed alcohol to so control his life as to virtually negate all his loved ones.Exposing the culpability of the drinks industry, the enabling qualities of Class As and our powerful sense of entitlement to drink until we fall over, Cleaning Up examines a moral panic of our time, exploring why women drink, how to stop and what life after alcohol is really like. You may as well be asking them to traipse one hundred miles in the rain, across rough terrain, with an elephant strapped to their back.

I still have the well worn copy that my mom read to me, and it's been a great tool for me to teach my kids about the value of having a clean house. The two words every parent says on repeat are the same two words that make children, no matter if it’s your toddler, first grader or tween, run for the hills. Instead she's saying "All of these things came into your life for a reason, take your time considering them, and then thank them and let them go onto the next stage of existence. But there is also a lot of material in the book people simply looking to enrich their personal development by integrating the principles of neuroplasticity.

This is a gobsmacking roller coaster ride through the failures of post-post war British liberated society.

As for her system, Marie Kondo goes into houses (she does this for a living) and starts her ritual by singing its praises. If you want to teach your kids to tidy, it can be helpful to start by introducing them to the topic of tidying in an accessible, fun way first. Tania has few good words to say about anyone, and has a great many unresolved issues with many people. Leaf was a guest, and during the interview she mentioned that she’s helped people with traumatic brain injury — people who other medical professionals had written off as permanently disabled — to not only recover from their injuries, but excel (in areas like academics, where highly functioning brain power is a prerequisite). The excitement never wanes as he is catapulted into the everyday yet unimaginable worlds behind closed (apartment) doors. This is so true that one woman literally revealed she actually ended up getting a divorce because the course taught her to see what she needed. Especially at the beginning of the school year, cleanup time requires intentional instruction to give students the necessary procedural information, and clear labeling can assist their visual understanding of where items belong in the classroom. I mean, I’m not perfect and my life doesn’t always run smoothly, but I’ve been around for a while, I’ve done the work, I’ve cultivated coping skills that do the job for me.

If one of those topics happens to be chores and cleaning up, these books are a great way to approach the subject with your kids. Japan's expert declutterer and professional cleaner Marie Kondo will help you tidy your rooms once and for all with her inspirational step-by-step method. It is evident from the photographs they send that they have even fewer belongings than when they finished the course, and have acquired new curtains and furnishings. The book focuses on tidying your house, but for me (and most of the people reading this) we don't own a house, we own one room.I needed some new books to recommend for moms who need help teaching their kids about cleanliness, chores and organization. Hammer and Nails, by Josh Bledsoe and illustrated by Jessica Warrick : Darcy cannot wait for her playdate!
