About this deal

Having been delighted by her work on stage and screen, radio and recordings for my whole life, I really enjoyed these reminiscences. I was pleased to discover there is so much more to her than THAT red dress, and a tedious journey was made much more pleasurable by being in her company. Firstly, I'm a massive fan of Fenella Fielding and the stories of her life and career are absolutely fascinating, often hilarious and never disappointing.

She was the voice of the Blue Queen in Dougal and the Blue Cat (1970) and the telephone operator and loudspeaker voice in The Prisoner (1967). Avoiding the present tense places more "distance" between the speaker and whatever he's talking about, which is a common feature of "deferential" statements/requests.By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible's Conditions of Use and authorise Audible to charge your designated card or any other card on file. Maybe also tell them that if they had any damn sense they would be investigating Jenny for arson and insurance fraud. In this case both forms are used by native speakers, and there may well be a difference in the nuance of meaning between them. You see, when the kids ask me about a point in grammar and I explain it to them, next day they come up to me with things exactly like this. I ought to add the caveat that, as in most of these phrases, what is appropriate in some circumstances is less so in others. The conventional Would you mind if I asked observes the sequence of tenses of type II conditionals (simple past in the if-clause, conditional in the main clause), and it's this which causes people to say that the version with the present in the if-clause is incorrect. These suggest that both forms are common enough in the language - something I'd say was true of BE too.

it's worth the listen alone for the bits about her Carry On movies, but what stands out is someone far deeper and who has lived and met many famous people. As a performer who was evidently proud of her feminine attributes and aware of the power that came with them, I remain a touch unconvinced by her claims to almost complete naïveté.Through all of this Fenella and Simon became great friends and spent a lot of time together that led to many more revelations and observations. I was driving by Jenny’s Café a few days later to admire my handy work, when I noticed that some asshole (probably Jenny herself) had crawled up there and erased my beautiful apostrophe — slapped some white paint right over it. here we have left the gentleness of the conditional form, and the question is almost expecting the answer no, and certainly making it quite hard for the other person to object. Glazed donuts are my favorite, but I enjoy an occasional apple fritter or bear claw just as much as the next guy.

So if you want to make a question out of a conditional construction, you use subject auxiliary inversion of the matrix clause: Would you mind if I smoked? As an artifact in itself it is a beautifully designed book that is embellished with, what I can only describe as, a Fenella face logo. Who wants to live in a country where a man can’t enjoy a cigarette and relax at the end of a work day? In the simple present, you cannot use either the past or future tense for verbs that follow the word mind. While this doesn’t exactly make for great literature, it oddly does add to her charm and gives a real sense of Fenella falling somewhat naïvely through a wondrous acting life that encompassed everything from a starring role Hedda Gabler to: Carry On Screaming, The Morecambe and Wise Show, and The Prisoner.Life is long and hard and mean and exhausting and I’ll need a long peaceful rest when I reach the finish line. This collection of anecdotes from her life and career are a reflection of her quirky, offbeat personality. Unfortunately, many of our favourites are now gone, but they are all still in our hearts and memories. Due to grammar rule, I only think of the sentence "would you mind if I smoked" but I still have seen some cases written down " Would you mind if smoke?
