About this deal

Now this shocking, radical, visionary author finally has his chance to shine, excel, surpass, outdo his already prescient work. Fans of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace will inevitably hear his unique voice while reading, but for a proper experience that follows naturally from the TV show format, you should listen to this one.

Unless it was that matter of ousting his wife and child from their family home via a team of bailiffs. Collectively, they put (torn and bloody) flesh on the bones of Marenghi’s leaden prose, and added duff, dopey theatricality to the duff, dopey writing that formed the show’s raw material. Of course, in the beginning, you'll wonder what the hell that reference was possibly about - but keep reading. In my head, I was playing out developments as if part of a series of ‘Darkplace’, which made me smile a lot. The legend, the master, the man - Marenghi is sure to deliver chills that will scare you to your bone jelly. Now to rewatch Dark Place and delve back into some of the pulp novels from whence this was conceived. These days, at least when comedians are involved, they’re often significant productions in themselves, and – perhaps – a means for lacking-match-fitness performers to edge back towards the live stage. Stepping outside the car, careful to avoid a big puddle, Capello stared out into the rainswept darkness. This book is obviously heavily influenced by the TV show, but also Stephen King, and feels a bit X-Files in places too, with countless other thematic references, without relying on any knowledge of any of the above.

It unlocked a lot of memories of reading exactly this kind of deathless prose, stretched to be even more deathless, which makes it about the most deathless prose out there. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Reads like Garth’s classic oeuvre of paperback horrors crossed with the X-Files, Faustian myth and bits of Manimal.
