About this deal

In terms of the obstacles, the closest to a main antagonist is the gangster Mario, who is at least a foil to Jayesh, who does seedy jobs to support himself and his grandmother. We see him move through the city, getting hassled by cops and criminals alike, and when he goes home, he shares a devastating moment with his father, one more devastating because his father isn’t a bad guy and does seem to be looking out for him. When an aspiring street artist by the name of 'Grafity' watches the tenements outside his home being razed, he finds an unlikely canvas at the one wall still left standing in the debris. The others have similar hopes – acting, writing, rapping – but in the meantime they're squeezed between their families telling them to get proper jobs, and an underworld which has more lucrative, more dangerous uses for them.

We are made privy to the lives of four young characters, then, who try to balance the need for survival and the human drive (or necessity) towards making our dreams come true. After I crossed 50, I had to go lay in bed and take a nap, as the whole thing consistently ran like a process in the back of my mind. The aforementioned ending and its related feeling of having been reading a series of stories that are just a drop in Mumbai’s tumultuous life manage to create a sense of closure which is, at the same time, the recognition that what we have in our hands are just shards of something bigger (I refer here to the very lives of our characters). There’s a constant air of tension, a pressure, like a weight pressing down and crushing the characters, even as they try to breathe through it. com, the Sell on Etsy app, and the Etsy app, as well as the electricity that powers Etsy’s global offices and employees working remotely from home in the US. But what’s also extraordinary is just how well and how much Bidikar’s work blends together with RK’s. And it is such a treat, with everything from pop-art moments to psychedelic title cards (like above) to all kinds of others. As a crime narrative, the comic does fall into the conventions we’ve seen in the crime genre, but Ram V cleverly uses the chaptering that goes from setting up one character’s arc to the next, eventually building to a climax that wraps up each arc. He’s an old man rising above his limits, taking out everyone, riding horses and battling armies, leading legions, until he finally faces a sun god against the backdrop of nuclear apocalypse. This was a well crafted narrative that had characters whose stories you can recognize in your own, if you've ever dreamed from an impossible place. The art style in the book is kinetic which allows the chaos of Mumbai to come alive off the pages while having an urban Moebius tinged style. And it’s what happens only in that specific context, at that point in time, nowhere else, never again.
