About this deal

He cites his influences for the band at the time as The Moody Blues, Steve Miller Band and the krautrock scene of Kraftwerk, Neu! Masters of the Universe is a 1977 compilation album by Hawkwind covering the years 1971 to 1974 while the group were contracted to United Artists Records. By the time Hawkwind went on the Space Ritual tour, Anderson had departed and Lemmy had joined the band, with his partnership with Brock giving the track a much heavier, driving sound. It was written by Nik Turner and Dave Brock and featured Turner on vocals, Brock on guitar, former Amon Düül II member Dave Anderson on bass, Del Dettmar and Dik Mik on synthesizers and Terry Ollis on drums.

I'm going to be completely honest, there are a lot of progressive rock bands from the 70's I would rather listen to over Hawkwind, but every now and then I get that itch where I'm in the mood for something really progressive, weird and different. Turn the album cover and the rest of the painting presents itself - the mountains are grander, truly enormous. Dead Skunk" became a stinker for Loudon when he felt pressure to make another hit - his latest songs deal with mortality, his son Rufus, and picking up poop. El Secreto Del Alfajor, a musical project with a penchant for blending folk and rock influences, presents two captivating tracks from their debut album. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Holding the vinyl album cover while 'Master of the Universe' emerged slowly, kicked in and held its hypnotic rhythm I took in the statue-like figure with the Ohm symbol on him (the Master of the Universe? But with these endlessly phasered and compressed electric guitars, the sound gets a bit one-dimensional after some time, actually. The original one indicates the date 1977 in the bottom right corner, with a hieroglyph design of which I added a detail (check the images).

Der Sound wird mit diesen ewig gephaserten und komprimiert klingenden Gitarren allerdings nach einiger Zeit etwas eintönig. I would suggest though to ditch this, and get the first 6 albums, "Chronicle of the Black Sword" "Space Ritual" and the latest release "Blood of the Earth" instead. and his death-like minion on the lofty escarpment, the mountains being leeched of colour and clarity as they recede into the far beyond. Though controversial, this is hardly new, indeed big names from Chuck Berry to George Harrison have been accused of ripping off, plagiarizing, stealing and failing to credit others for their contributions for all manner of reasons.

While Masters of the Universe's blend of studio and live material may initially seem a bit odd to the newcomer to Hawkwind, the two live cuts are probably the band's most beloved material outside of the standalone single "Silver Machine" (not on this compilation, but present on the aforementioned Roadhawks), and both "Sonic Attack" and "Orgone Accumulator" are mixed in such a way that any audience noise is kept to a minimum, to allow for an oddly seamless listening experience. I know that was really long-winded but it's near impossible for me to convey how mesmerising I found this cover as a teenager, and how perfect a companion image to the track 'Master of the Universe' it seemed (and still seems).
