About this deal

To say that this hedge cutter is easy to assemble would be an understatement. There is very little that needs doing; it’s practically ready to go straight away.

Reach for the stars without encountering a steep learning curve or an astronomical price tag, with one of the best beginner telescopes While it’s only the smallest of the Bosch hedge cutter line, it still delivers amazing performance thanks to its 420W motor and should cut easily through most hedges found in the average UK garden. Alternatives OptionsAffordability, power, ergonomics and comfort. These are all the things that make the Bosch AHS 45-16 the perfect hedge cutter for smaller hedges. Worx garden products have really impressed this writer and not just because every product I’ve tested of theirs performs the task it was made for, but also because I’m fond of the company’s product designs. Granted, branding and looks shouldn’t play a part in choosing garden gear, but every time I see a WORX product I just want to get my hands on it (witness the company’s LeafJet blower or Landroid M500 robot mower). In the pantheon of garden products, their stuff screams ‘buy me’.

This extendable cordless hedge edger lets you trim without the need for a ladder; it has a reach of around 10 feet. For a cordless model, the Gtech HT 50 is light-ish at 2.94kgs and pretty well designed. It couldn’t be simpler to assemble as it’s comprised of just four parts: a blade housing, a control handle, a 90cm aluminium extension arm and a small, lightweight 18v Lithium-Ion battery. People mostly seem to be impressed by how easy it is to use, allowing them to finally get on top of trimming their hedges before they get out of control. The blade on the Bosch AHS 45-16 is made with diamond ground ensuring they stay sharp and provide a clean cut each and every time you trim your hedges.

The other massive benefit is the weight of this model, making it easy to use without too much physical exertion. The soft grip handles make it a very pleasant experience to tidy up your garden. As you’d expect from any Bosch machine, this model is very easy to use. It feels very well balanced, so even as I started to get a little tired, I didn’t find that I struggled to maintain control.

As with most power tools, the main choice is corded or cordless: a battery-powered devices’ running time is of course limited by their battery, but corded trimmers run the risk of accidentally cutting the power cable and possibly being too far away from a mains source. Which reminds us – always put an RCD on the plug your power tool’s connected to. Lighting Sofa In A Box Bathroom Lights Mirrors Carpets Outdoor Lighting Radiator Covers Fireplaces & Stoves This is one of the benefits of having a corded machine over a cordless model – there’s no worrying that the power will slowly decrease as the battery runs out of juice. The combination of the powerful motor 45 cm long with 16 mm opening provides outstanding performance

There are three things that come in the box; the main unit, the 10 m power cable and the instruction manual. Before getting to work, all you need to do is unscrew a cap to connect the power cable, and remove the protective blade sleeve. Write: DIY Garden (Harris Creative Ltd), Lytchett House, 13 Freeland Park, Wareham Road, Poole, Dorset, BH16 6FA This corded electric hedge trimmer from Bosch isn't the biggest or most powerful cutter on the market, but if you've got small to medium-sized amounts of hedging that need taming then it is a good and very affordable fit.

However, whilst 4.6kg is light, it’s still heavier than some other trimmers on the market. For instance, the Bosch AHS 45-16 (which is DIY Garden’s top recommendation when it comes to hedge trimmers), weighs just 2.6kg. Sofas & Sofa Beds Chairs & Footstools Tables Storage & Home Throws Rugs Dining Chairs Dining Table Sets Cooking & Dining We survey owners of hedge trimmers from the likes of Bosch, Gtech, Ryobi and Stihl to find out which develop the least faults over time, and which brands customers would recommend. It’s designed with optimum balance to allow both vertical and horizontal cutting. This was achieved by maintaining small outer dimensions to help you maneuver it with ease. Okay, now that you’re familiar with hot the AHS 45-16 compares to other Bosch models, let’s get into the details and see what exactly makes this model so special. Key Features

The bottom line…

This trimmer has a 420 W motor which felt ample for the hedges I was trimming. It managed to get through almost everything with total ease, and maintained basically the same level of power throughout As a mains-powered machine, there’s no fuel to think about, nor battery to charge. Simply plug it in and get started.
