It was not bad, but again, Sera's inner monologues felt long and repetitive, and there were parts of the story that dragged on, so it was not my favorite book of this series for sure. I’m definitely a fan of JLA releasing the prequel series simultaneously and pretty much weaving everything together in such way that’s indicative of her skill with writing.

They share some of the most wholesome and bittersweet moments, and they say the most wonderful things to each other.Admittedly, personal tastes vary, but for me, their connection has been a highlight since the first book, and this installment only solidifies their status as an ultimate fantasy couple.

He’ll even risk the utter destruction of the realms, and that’s exactly what will happen if he doesn’t Ascend as the Primal of Life. Literally could have condensed this into 200 pages instead of having a book that just kept repeating the same two scenarios over and over.It’s been in the back of my head since then, and I have kept hoping, and I’m so glad that we got that answer!

So much is said and done in this book and I feel like a lot of what’s to come in the blood and ash series were hinted in this book and as much as I would like to believe that I am good figuring them out (FYI I am not :P), I feel like whatever my mind can come up with, Jen will find a way to surprise us again by adding her own special twist into them. He just seemed clueless about acceptable social interactions and how to behave with someone you care about, and overall I almost felt bad for him at times because he appeared more like an unstable, sick Primal on a power trip, than a scheming and vindictive one. I truly hope we get more of them being a solid couple, because they’re just as cute as Poppy and Casteel! His sheer determination and refusals to let anyone treat Sera like she isn’t the most important thing is so adorable.Other things that bugged me: Why does she have to sleep (in FBAA world), there's no scenes with Jadis or Reaver (UNACCEPTABLE! I just recently finished A Light in the Flame and that one had the same issue, there were parts that I just wanted to get over so we can move on with the good bits. I really liked how Jen had her handle that mean little, self-confidence shredding voice we’ve all had to deal with at one point or another. Kolis has Sera, but she manages to convince him that she is Sotoria reborn, even though she doesn’t look like her that much.

I love the Flesh and Fire series so much, I love Nyktos and Sera so much more than Poppy and Cas and I think this book just may have ruined them for me. The developing scenario raises issues of fate, control, and the unexpected strands that weave across the cosmic fabric.

Her young adult romantic suspense novel DON’T LOOK BACK was a 2014 nominated Best in Young Adult Fiction by YALSA. Due to this diagnosis, educating people on the varying degrees of blindness has become of passion of hers, right alongside writing, which she plans to do as long as she can. I found JLA's self-awareness of the Lasania/Lasagne debate kind of cringy, but I did enjoy all the different flavoured waters Sera got to drink. It seems like she has all the pieces necessary to put together what is going to happen with Poppy in the future.
