Ayatsuji is one of my most favorite Japanese detective novelists, I love his famous, imaginative 'Mansions series' to pieces. If you like creepy Japaneses high school stories with characters that are pretty messed up and a main character is so naive at times you wonder how they survive the rest of the book? Her cat—wearing a red collar—notices the portal first, when an identical cat in a blue collar steps through.

As a rule, I would generally steer away from a title that has been previously used, unless the book is entirely unrelated to its ‘twin’. Despite this atmosphere and warnings from fellow students, Koichi is drawn to the beautiful, distant Mei Misaki, another classmate.I'm a very visual reader and also a fan of anime and manga, so I was easily able to visualize the characters and setting. Christian Robinson's ability to turn elementary shapes into something more is remarkable, a feature I loved about Last Stop on Market Street, which earned him a 2016 Caldecott Honor.
