About this deal

Here can be seen Antillia, a phantom island reputed to exist in the 15th century and which was depicted on several maps at the time.

The authors spent months compiling hundreds of fictional and imaginary places from film, television, literature, myths, comics, video games and much more, all of which were carefully plotted in a series of highly detailed, antique-style maps by Mike. The maps also pinpoint dozens of famous fictional organisations and businesses — Central Perk, Ghostbusters HQ, Torchwood, Cyberdyne Sytems, Sterling Cooper, Tyrell Corporation, to name just a few of the more famous examples. of the world's most stunning city maps show exactly where your favourite characters lived, loved, worked and played. For more infomation please review our use of cookies in our Cookie Policy and then Accept and Close this bar. Matt Brown is author of several books for Batsford, using his trademark humour and playfulness as tools to explore the world. Besides the city maps, artfully drawn by illustrator Mike Hall, the book also includes plenty of mini-essays exploring the fiction of the 14 cities. Fascinating and beautiful, this is an essential book for any popular culture fan and map enthusiast. From the top left: Africa, south east Asia, Australia, Europe, South America, North America, the Nordic Countries, and the Middle East.

From the Ghostbusters HQ in New York to Nemo’s fish tank in Sydney, from the Phantom of the Opera’s Parisian lair to scenes from Grand Theft Auto in LA, this is an amazing atlas of imaginary locations in real-life cities around the world. With a deep love of trivia, he’s written and hosted hundreds of quizzes, including events for the Museum of London and Manchester Science Museum, among many others. One other design decision of note was to hide the graticules (lines of latitude and longitude) from each map to avoid confusion with the coordinate grid lines.Characters' homes, bars, clubs, metro stations and skycrapers that you've seen or read about are all plotted in in beautiful vintage-style city maps. I was impressed that the authors found Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry — it’s reputed to be “unplottable” — along with the nearby town of Hogsmead, frequented by Harry Potter and his friends, tucked away in eastern Scotland’s Cairngorms Mountains.

Let them show you how to get to Sesame Street, and thousands of other places besides, in this indispensable guidebook to all those places you always wanted to visit. Often, it's obvious from the source material, but sometimes a bit of detective-work is needed to pinpoint a fictional home, business or event.

I am already eagerly awaiting the extra large pull-down classroom version of these maps so I can use them as blinds in my office. I also discovered a bounty of toys for any little girl or boy who wishes for a Christmas gift when I found the Isle of Mifsfit Toys. Each map is enlivened by small colour illustrations, depicting characters and scenes from various sources featured on each map. At the more literary end is Valley Fields from PG Wodehouse and Ham - the island from Book of Dave, formerly known as Hampstead. This dreamy, gorgeously detailed picture book leads children on a journey to impossible but wonderfully imagined places.
