Although it wouldn’t hurt if there were more “party” (the celebratory kind, not the political one) in Silent Alarm, it’s still a fine debut album with a lot of passion and polish; it’s hard not to respect, if not fully embrace, the intensity and integrity of Bloc Party’s music.

Building on the arrangements in their demo songs recorded in 2004, the band members moulded tracks largely through live takes during the Silent Alarm studio sessions. Bloc Party's debut album, 'Silent Alarm', was released in February 2005 and was met with universal critical acclaim. Bucking today's trend for a 'plug and play' sound, Russel Lissack's effects-laden guitar - evocative of Radiohead's Johnny Greenwood - is given free reign to explore. Recorded in Copenhagen and London in mid-2004 with producer Paul Epworth, it was released in February 2005 on Wichita Recordings.
