Cross-pollinating means that you take the pollen from the flower of one plant and fertilize the pistil of a completely different plant. Species of the genus Cypripedium (lady slippers) of orchids trap insects temporarily to ensure pollination. Trap-flowers that produce deceptive sexual chemicals to attract insects may often lack nectar rewards. An alternative and less tedious way of pollinating the flowers is to just take two flowers that have receptive pistils and rub them together. Native to North and South Carolina, Venus fly trap is named after the Roman goddess of love, Venus, due to its beautiful white flowers. Plants need a cold winter rest, so if you are growing your plant indoors, move it to a cooler position such as an unheated greenhouse, porch or unused and unheated room.This method is for the advanced cultivator who has access to a laboratory or wants to try challenging work at home.
