This became especially irritating when my baby started sleeping through the night and I was woken up by a shrill beep of the monitor, only to see my newborn snoozing peacefully. It does have limited range so it may not cover an entire room but it should be enough for any crib or bed. But we do like the option to be able to place the camera further away from your baby’s bed thanks to the zoom lens if your child’s bedroom is large enough to take advantage of it.

However, keep in mind that most of the other baby monitors out there today are rocking 1080p parent units, so this was a long-overdue update for Infant Optics. As is the audio quality, with the microphone on the baby unit able to pick up the faintest of sounds, such as your baby rolling over through the night. Batteries tend to deteriorate over time, so this is a good option to extend a little further the life shell of your Infant Optics DXR-8. Most parent will sleep with the unit on their bedside table, but we recommend you move it further away. If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag.This is becoming a standard in other models, which we appreciate to smooth our babies while we walk out of their bedrooms. You can tilt the camera on a 270-degree horizontal angle (135 degrees both left and right), and pan across a 120-degree vertical angle (95 degrees up and 25 degrees down), which is great to perfectly keep your baby’s bed in focus.

Given that we experienced a longer run time, we feel the manufacturer's claims are probably accurate enough for parents to trust. We needed a new standalone monitor after our older one broke because the little ones ripped off the antenna!

Like the earlier model, the new one has a thermometer, too, though I find it could be more accurate. We did find numerous DXR-8 consumers with similar issues though, including interference from routers and microwaves and the notoriously annoying beeping alarm which sounds for low batteries or lost signal.

There is a power/sleep button on the top and controls to pan the camera and access settings on the right.You will need to plug it at night to recharge while you sleep however as the battery takes about 7 hours of charging to be full. And, while his room is carpeted, that tumble is still several feet high and it hasn’t had any issues at all. Unluckily for us, we don’t live inside of a football stadium, so we really can’t even tell the difference in utility with this new update.
