About this deal

Lama Zopa Rinpoche was a master at explaining Buddhism’s radical but effective methods for transforming suffering into happiness, which have been practiced and taught by Tibetans for a thousand years.

With the sovereign power of the Great Seal brought to perfection, he invested him as the Immutable Vajra with the ten powerful forms. This fourth and final Science and Philosophy in the Indian Buddhist Classics volume provides, through extensive passages, a window into the works of the great thinkers from the flowering of philosophy in classical India. Eighty of his students attained rainbow body at Yerpa, as well as the one hundred and eight meditators at Chuwori, the thirty tantrikas at Yangdzong, and the fifty-five realized ones at Sheldrak. Guru Rinpoche had foreknowledge of this and was already on his way, gradually traveling from Nepal, and he met them in Mangyul.Like earlier volumes, it provides, through extensive extracts, a window into the works of the masters of the Nalanda tradition.

With the right perspective, our anxiety around sickness, old age, and death can be a “wholesome fear”—a fear with a positive quality that ultimately enriches and nourishes our lives. For each of these hidden treasures, Padmākara predicted the time of disclosure, the person who would reveal the treasure, and the destined recipients who would hold the teachings. At present the Guru dwells on the ‘vidyādhara level of spontaneous presence’, the path of consummation, as the Vajradhara regent, unshakable for as long as saṃsāra remains. In the dharmakāya realm of ‘Luminous Vajra Essence’, he has been naturally enlightened within primordial purity — the ground of liberation — since the very beginning.Except for dog's carrion, everything will arise from the treasure; in the long life of a man, anything may happen. Then, he walks us through the two main methods for achieving bodhichitta: the seven points of cause and effect, and equalizing and exchanging self and others.

His inquisitiveness can be experienced through every one of his writings and can be found as well in these new essays in intellectual, cultural, and institutional history by Christopher Beckwith, Yael Bentor, the late Hubert Decleer, Franz-Karl Ehrhard, Jörg Heimbel and David Jackson, Nathan Hill, Isabelle Henrion-Dourcy, Matthew Kapstein, Todd Lewis, Kurtis Schaeffer, Peter Schwieger, Gray Tuttle, Pieter Verhagen, Michael Witzel, and others. At this time the Guru bound the twelve Tenma goddesses, the thirteen Gurlha and twenty-one Genyen, as well as many other powerful spirits, taking hold of their life-force and making them swear allegiance. Even the great bodhisattvas are incapable of fully telling the story of his life and liberation, yet I shall nonetheless give a brief outline in the pages that follow. Nyangral Nyima Özer (1124–1192) was the author of the Zangling-ma (Jeweled Rosary), the earliest biography of Padmasambhava. In Dear Lama Zopa, Rinpoche applies that challenge to our everyday, real-life problems—from the littlest to the biggest.According to traditional hagiographies, his students include the great female masters Yeshe Tsogyal and Mandarava. Vairocana and Namkhai Nyingpo, among others, were sent to India, where Vairocana studied Atiyoga with Śrī Siṃha and Namkhai Nyingpo received the teachings on Śrī Heruka from the great master Hūṃkāra. Regarding him as the answer to his prayers, the king took him home to the royal palace, where he was given the name Padmākara, ‘Lotus-Born’, as well as Tsokyé Dorjé, ‘Lake-Born Vajra’. Displaying his attainment of the first vidyādhara level, the stage of ‘the vidyādhara level of maturation’, the Guru was known as Loden Choksé, ‘Wise Seeker of the Sublime’. Padmasambhava also gave countless profound and extraordinary teachings connected with the three inner tantras to many destined students, chiefly the king, his sons and the twenty-five disciples.
