About this deal

In January 2010, the webcomic Penny Arcade poked fun at James Patterson based on the description found on the back of the first book. Booklist said that the plot of the story was "presented with boisterous and nicely stylized images that purposively exploit manga features, postures, and symbolism", as well as that its cliffhanger would "entice readers to seek the next in the series". The short chapters also annoyed me but that is a personal preference I like my chapters to be longer than two pages long.

Although this novel is for younger readers any adult who loves the world of fantasy will enjoy this,(I know I did). Her family brave a journey to blazing hot Death Valley, CA, to save Angel, but soon enough, they find themselves in yet another nightmare—this one involving fighting off the half-human, half-wolf “Erasers” in New York City. Worse than the one-dimensional characters and the freakishly awful writing are the countless pages devoted entirely to filler. I recommend this book to anyone (preferably over 8 or 9 as of some mildly strong language) with a big imagination.

Illustrated by Narae Lee and released by Yen Press, the first chapter of the original English-language manga adaptation came out in July 2008 in the magazine Yen Plus.Government officials ask the Flock to help a team of scientists study pollution levels in the oceans around Antarctica. James Patterson is an amazing author who was recently named “The Mand Who Can’t Miss” by Times Magazine. At breakfast, Angel says that she wants to go strawberry picking, and the Flock soon does so; however, they are briefly delayed by Gazzy passing gas. Her powers include flying up to 350 mph, breathing water, and hearing a Voice in her head which gives her advice (which we find out later in the series is really Angel).

Hawk/Phoenix: the daughter of Max and Fang and the protagonist of the books Hawk and City of the Dead. The Flock struggles to survive after the decimation of the planet, with many of their loved ones having died or gone missing. Also, the chapters weren't very effective when it came to the cliffhangers at the end of it because there were 3 pages in every chapter or less. One of my students recommended this book, and while I was intrigued by the premise, and the fact that the protagonist is a female action hero, I found the dialogue beyond basic (only an adult would imagine that kids really communicate like this) and the plot was a liitle repetitious. The books featured on this site are aimed primarily at readers aged 13 or above and therefore you must be 13 years or over to sign up to our newsletter.Later on, I had a blast with the next two books; I remember reading the third one just after starting a long car trip my parents, and it was such a rush, it made me really hyped up. I know a lot of people fell in love with reading through harry potter but I guess my reading journey was a little bit different! However, Booklist also praised Patterson for stepping out of his normally adult-genre books as it said, "He's picked a comfortable formula (orphans protecting one another and making a home together)". I wonder what young people can understand from this pile of rubbish and how kind were they who have ranked it more than nothing at all. Together they learn of Angel's survival and rescue her from the lab where she's being held prisoner.
