About this deal

Confessions of a Bangkok Private Eye is a fictionalized account of Bangkok Private Eye Warren Olson’s experiences working there. Olson is fluent in the Thai and Khmer languages and walked the seedy side of the city where other P.I.’s did not. Each book in the David Raker series is offering a standalone story, but the lives of the different characters evolve from one book to the other.

The e-book debate - threat or opportunity?". Front Row. BBC Radio 4. 29 August 2012 . Retrieved 3 November 2013. (Quote, in response to audience question, at around 26.53) Leather was born in Manchester. He grew up in Sale and Chorlton-cum-Hardy, and attended Manchester Grammar School. [7] He attended Bath University, where he obtained a BSc in Biochemistry in 1978. [2] Early career [ edit ] While reading the sample, I thought that this is my kind of book. It had a dark, twisted, jaded protagonist with some great sarcastic humor. I immediately bought the book. It took some time, but I finally got around to reading it. Unsworth, Emma (25 January 2007). Haunted by the unsolved murders of a mother and her twin daughters, his life was left in ruins. David Raker is the only friend Healy has left. The only one who understands that redemption rests on solving these murders. Their search will unravel a thread of tragedy spanning years, and will force them to sacrifice everything they have left… Broken Heart– A woman drives to a beautiful headland overlooking the Devon coast. She is never seen again, and no trace of where she went can be found. The woman’s sister calls missing persons investigator David Raker. As Raker tries to find her whereabouts – fearing the worst – he learns that she was recently widowed from a reclusive film director.

However, Nightfall's constant stream of dramatic events ended up being a double-edged sword. While it was hard for me to really get bored when big things kept happening every other chapter, I also got a little burned out on those "big" things about halfway through the book. It's kind of like the first time you go on a roller coaster...it's exciting and thrilling and loads of fun (to me, at least), but when you ride that same roller coaster for the tenth time, it's just not quite as good as it was the first time. You know where all of the drops and the sharp turns are, and there's not a lot left to surprise you, which is half the fun of the ride in the first place. This is kind of the way I felt about Nightfall by the end of the book. Nightfall: The first novel in the series is a suspenseful novel with one of the most gripping plots of any of the novels. Dismissed from the Metropolitan Police Service, Nightingale becomes a private investigator, only to find that his supernatural experiences increase in intensity. The death of his biological father leaves him the new owner of a mansion, which he soon moves into. The joy of a new house does not last long, as he soon discovers that his father had committed suicide after he realized that a deal he made to sell his son’s soul to the devil could not be reversed. In a somber yet stirring narrative, the novel takes a philosophical look into the shadowy world of the supernatural and its interactions with the real world. Coming from English writer Tim Weaver, this crime series is about the investigations of missing persons investigator David Raker. In 2002, Leather's book Tango One was nominated for the inaugural CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger, awarded by the Crime Writers' Association. [23] [24] His book Hard Landing was nominated for the award in 2004. [25]Short Fuses is a collection of four action-adventure short stories by Stephen Leather. The stories included are Breaking In, Strangers on a Train, Inspector Zhang and the Hotel Guest and Cat’s Eyes. Made for TV movie based on the book written by Leather. Leather was employed as a biochemist for ICI, shovelled limestone in a quarry, worked as a baker, a petrol pump attendant, a barman, and worked for the Inland Revenue. Miller, Laura (1 January 2013). "Talking with Daniel Mendelsohn about the year in literary criticism". Salon.com . Retrieved 3 November 2013. There were additional issues with the book; the author had problems keeping the timeline straight, he placed the 10th of the month as the Friday between the 13th and 27th. Wrote two of the first series episode (2001) and two episodes of the second series (2002). Also wrote an episode for the 2003 series. [16] Spook factor. It was properly ooky with all the stuff around him that made him isolated, afraid and unable to fight.Nightshade– A farmer walks into a school and shoots eight children dead before turning the gun on himself. It’s a harrowing but straightforward case – until police search the man’s farm and unearth evidence of dark Satanic practices. When the perpetrator’s brother approaches Nightingale, adamant that his brother was set up, it’s clear that something even more sinister lurks at the heart of the case. Weird relationships. These are not healthy boss/employee or boss/friend relationships. I did like that he had a bestie that wasn't impressed with him, but hate how that turned out. Everything else was gross. Like he told his secretary "do as your told, girl," on the regular. Me, I'd slap him.
