About this deal

Part of the problem is that studies require a large amount of funding. Inevitably, it is the larger organisations who can make the monies available, hence much of the data comes from research financed by the likes of Oral-B and Sonicare.

Within the article, I will aim to make it as clear as possible how the iO Series differs, but it is important to be aware that differences do exist. What does each brushing mode do? Daily Clean With the Genius X these buttons are themselves in a rounded oval panel and have a convex design to them. The iO buttons are concave. Up to 7 cleaning modes (subject to variant) are available on the iO (daily clean, gum care, sensitive, super sensitive, whitening, intense & tongue clean) compared to the 6 on the Genius (daily clean, gum care, sensitive, whitening, pro clean & tongue clean). This pausing of the brush motor causes the brushing sensation to change as well as the sound of the brush. In particular, Oral-B brushes use oscillating-rotating technology that closely mimics the motion of a manual toothbrush and provides a deep clean. And the Smart 1500 has multiple cleaning modes and a built-in timer to ensure proper brushing technique. It is my choice for the best electric toothbrush.

This brush has been entirely redesigned and uses a different motor within the handle in comparison to most other Oral-B electric toothbrushes.

The Cross Action, FlossAction, Deep Sweep or Precision Clean brush heads are most suitable for this cleaning mode. The principle is that you spend 45 seconds for each quadrant of the mouth (upper right, upper left, lower right and lower left) compared to the standard 2 minute clean and 30 second intervals. The Genius X travel case holds a handle and 2 brush heads compared to the iO’s power2go case that holds the handle and 1 brush head. (No power2go feature in the case with series 7 & 8 – but holds 2 brush heads) Since you should be brushing your teeth for two minutes twice a day, many electric toothbrushes are equipped with timers that will indicate—often through lights or vibrations—when two minutes have elapsed. Some on this list take that a step further and offer subtle alerts at 20- or 30-second intervals to let you know when you should move from one section of your mouth to the next to ensure even brushing. “To achieve two minutes of toothbrushing, an electric toothbrush can be set with a timer, whereas a manual toothbrush can risk cutting that short,” Dr. Zoumboukos says. If you go with the iO, you'll get a full charge in around 3 hours with the magnetic charging stand. Otherwise, you’ll need to leave it plugged in for up to 22 hours to get it fully charged. On the iO Series all cleaning modes, with the exception of the Tongue Clean last for just 2 minutes. If you have a Bluetooth enabled toothbrush, the app will give a visual representation of this timer and pacer feature on screen in real-time.

Oral-B: 2023 head-to-head — Electric Teeth Sonicare vs Oral-B: 2023 head-to-head — Electric Teeth

You've probably already realized that Braun Oral-B manufactures quite a few different types of electric toothbrushes. Most of their brushes have a number after their name, and a higher number is generally an indication of more features. We'll explain more about these later on. The Oral-B iO Series 5 toothbrush is an excellent choice for sensitive teeth, thanks to its specialized sensitivity modes and gentle brushing experience. The toothbrush offers multiple settings (sensitive, extra sensitive, intense, polish) and various intensity levels. Initially, we thought the toothbrush might be too thin, but it was just right for reaching all areas comfortably, and the brush head size suited our needs. The iO comes with anywhere between 2 and 4 x Ultimate Clean brush head, compared to the 3 or 7 brush heads (varying styles) with the Genius X (subject variant). The brush head still has an oscillating, rotating and pulsating action, however rather than being measured by a number of movements per minute it is now measures based on the oscillation angle.Irrespective of the toothbrush you are using, don’t be too worried about the number of oscillations, rotations and pulsations. Any electric toothbrush should clean the teeth better than a manual brush, when used correctly. It only took us a few moments to grasp how to operate the Oral-B Genius 9600 Electric Toothbrush. While a bit heavier than some others we tested, it wasn't bothersome. The variety of cleaning modes delighted us. Switching between regular, light brushing, whitening, and tongue settings was easy—just press the down arrow and the handle lights up with the correct mode. Despite not finding a pressure sensor, we didn't miss it much as we could switch to a gentler mode if needed. Bluetooth connectivity is available, but we didn't find it necessary as all the features worked fine without it. Aims to polish teeth to give that dentist clean look and feel for brighter teeth by removing surface stains.
