In 2005, Macchio played himself in the HBO series Entourage. [1] Beginning in October 2008, he appeared in several episodes of the ABC Network television series Ugly Betty as Archie Rodriguez, a local politician who is Hilda's love interest. [13] As of November 2008, Macchio was ranked No. 80 among VH1's 100 Greatest Teen Stars. [14] Rosen, J.J. (November 22, 2019). "Mr. Miyagi and the quest for the perfect mentor". The Tennessean. Macchio’s] down-to-earth writing style suits the behind-the-scenes tales and his heartwarming meetings with fans well… Macchio’s sweet, nostalgic memoir is as family-friendly and instructive as its inspiration.” —Kirkus Marriage is work. A relationship is always work. But having someone to take the journey with? Be understood by, at the deepest level? The totality of that is special’: with wife of 35 years Phyllis Fierro. Photograph: Allen Berezovsky/FilmMagic I put a counter-proposal to Macchio: that it is thrusting people, more forceful people, who benefit most from opportunities. In other words, maybe being nice has not always served his interests. “Huh. That’s interesting. Maybe I did undercut myself. I’m thinking this through now – this is a new thought in my mind. What happens is, it’s very hard not to become desperate when you want to find work that isn’t there. There was a section of time when that was happening to me. That’s often when actors go off the deep end or down a dark path. Because it’s such a seductive thing, success.” He kept out of trouble, he guesses, because he was always more interested in his Long Island life than his Hollywood one. He was nice.

I loved everything about how Daniel beat Terry Silver at the end of Cobra Kai season 5. That was his greatest victory in the show so far. All that is to say, I've been in a big "Karate Kid" mood lately. When I saw that Ralph Macchio had written a recent memoir, reading it was a no brainer.

Macchio covers all things Karate Kid, serving up behind-the-scenes dish about the making of the film, warm remembrances of those he’s lost…and lessons learned from a life in the public eye.” The memoir is heartfelt, and insightful. It is funny, and a little frustrating (like -- why wouldn't Macchio have watched The Next Karate Kid from start to finish, even if just in support of Morita's continued live in the Miyagiverse? He should have. He still should. It was actually a nice edition). For 30 years and more, whenever the American actor Ralph Macchio attends a sports event, the chances are that a live image of his face will flash up on the arena’s big screen. Macchio’s name will appear, always accompanied by a three-word explanation of who he used to be. “Guys, remember the Karate Kid from the 1980s? He’s here, he’s alive, he watches baseball, too!” Macchio is a fan of standup comedy. But if he sits in the audience at a show he must always be prepared to be singled out. “Hey Ralph, didn’t I see you waxing on and waxing off at a car wash? You guys might know Macchio from The Karate Kid trilogy. And if you don’t know him from those movies, then you don’t know him at all…” I learned some stuff about the movies and movie making and that was cool. I wanted to know more about him and the world he’s lived in. The humor was wry and self-deprecating—which to me is often the best kind. I could not help but realize that this is a really level-headed guy working in a very tough business. I reached the conclusion where I kept thinking, wow, his friends and family are fortunate. Seems like a good guy to go get a pint with or catch a baseball game.I am a Ralph Macchio fan. Always have been, however . . . I have since seen The Outsiders, Karate Kid I & II, and My Cousin Vinny -- each over 100 times. Easy. Karate Kid III was very . . . meh. I enjoyed The Next Karate Kid very much (Probably watched it 3 or 4 times). Cobra Kai -- I have watched each season more than once. I did wish he talked more about Part II, and sadly Part III - even though he did dislike that film. I wanted more information about the making of those two. But I think he feels more grounded and proud of his work in Part I. a b Chi, Paul (June 1, 2009). " 'The Karate Kid' All Grown Up". People. Archived from the original on May 19, 2018 . Your book was exactly what I wanted. As you said, it was the behind-the-scenes stories of The Karate Kid and Cobra Kai. It was really perfect.

I love Ralph and have been a fan of his since his days on Eight is Enough and have seen him perform in all his movies as well as live in Cuba and his Teddy Bear and Magic Hands Freddy. Karate Kid has an amazing impact on so many generations and it wouldn’t have been so impactful if Ralph and Pat Morita were the leads. It is magical. I was fortunate to see KK in theaters in 1984 and as a child experience the energy of the movie. I was excited that Ralph was publishing an bio book and finally finished it in a day after it was released. The book mostly focuses on the evolution of Second chance: Netflix’s Cobra Kai season five premiere event with Courtney Henggeler and Mary Mouser. Photograph: Allen Berezovsky/FilmMagic Taking risks, being more kneejerk with decisions, with your lifestyle,” he says, “that probably does create more opportunity. I get that. But it wasn’t me.” The book will be Ralph Macchio’s celebratory reflection on the legacy of The Karate Kid in film, pop culture, and his own life. It will be a comprehensive look at a film that shaped him as much as it influenced the world. Macchio will share an insider's perspective of the untold story behind his starring role —the innocence of the early days, the audition process, and the filmmaking experience--as well as take readers through the birth of some of the film’s most iconic moments.

Ralph Macchio: Why not? I mean, that would be... (laughs) It just goes to show you how Daniel LaRusso, in every chapter of The Karate Kid universe, had a fantastic, wonderful girl that he couldn't hold on to. (laughs) They finally all come together, and they could all share stories about him. Sure, I think would be wonderful. These guys, Jon, Josh, and Hayden, if anyone could do it, they're the ones.

Macchio was cast as Jeremy Andretti for a season in the television series Eight Is Enough. [1] He next won the role of Johnny Cade in the 1983 film The Outsiders. [1] Karate Kid films [ edit ]Macchio writes, crisp, smooth narrative. He keeps a nice pace. He feeds the reader his perspective of behind-the-scene information based on the films and the show. He has a great sense of humor that is highlighted in his writing. Although he must have said "more on this later" or "more about this in the next chapter" so many times, I can't recall now if he covered all of his bases. I am certain his editors made sure he did. That I's got dotted, and T's crossed. Kenneally, Tim (March 28, 2011). "Ralph Macchio, Elijah Wood Think Bad Thoughts in Indie Music Clip". The Wrap. Archived from the original on April 4, 2011 . Retrieved March 28, 2011. The subtitle of this book says it ALL. Almost every other word is TheKarateKid. Or, CobraKai. I would have liked to hear more about the other movies he worked on as well, such as My Cousin Vinny or Crossroads. It would have been interesting to hear about how his baby face affected him more in his life and profession. What he had to say was interesting, but I feel that it could have been broadened a bit more. I'm guessing this was more a laser focus than a broad story about his life in general. Kind of sad, as it comes across that he feels his life only revolved around The Karate Kid and now Cobra Kai.
