I suspect I will be using this for many years to come - and you don't often get that from many books! This unique book is worth reading because it contributes to demonstrations of diverse theoretical perspectives on how learning happens, shifts the understanding of learning away from philosophical speculation to empirical analysis based on testable hypothesis, and offers practical implications for teaching practice. Kirschner and Hendrick bring together 28 of these works and their most important discoveries, as independently verified in the wider scientific community. Part 5 elaborates on different social influences on learning, comprising situated cognition, cognitive apprenticeship, and communities of practice.Educational psychology is dependable science, and evidence from many directions moves toward a broad consensus of how we learn ( Pomerance et al. They fall in love with it by playing the game themselves, trading baseball cards, and seeing people talk about the game with glittering enthusiasm. When it comes to music, we intuitively know that nobody wants to read the lyrics of an album before they listen to the music. The ‘How to Use the Work in Your Teaching’ and ‘Takeaways’ sections provide a clear and concise link back to how you can use that finding in your own classroom to better your practice.
