Description

Coraline enters the parallel universe again with a new 4K + Blu-ray Disc set from Shout Factory and Laika by way of a glorious SteelBook. Now in stereoscopic 3D, from Henry Selick the visionary director of The Nightmare Before Christmas, and based on Neil Gaiman's best-selling book, comes this spectacular stop-motion animated adventure! Now it’s up to Coraline to figure a way out of the monster’s lair, and get back to her OWN reality, as boring as it may seem to her. It's Alive" (3:19), "I've Seen Fire and I've Seen Fog" (4:01), "The Eyes Have It" (3:20), and "Wrapping Up" (2:03).

The newly remastered transfer is only slightly better than the previous outing, but some new great bonus features are added to the mix. It has a “Certified Fresh” badge over at Rotten Tomatoes with (at the time of writing) a 90% rating. But, when things take a sinister turn Coraline has to rely on her wits to rescue not only herself but her family. Clearly her voice is still young, and needed to be so; there is that childlike wonder and incessant chatter, whether it is chastising Wybie, impinging on her parent’s time, or steeling against ‘other mother’, and she showed a talent that was far beyond her years. We hope you’ll join us in our goal of building a strong community of like-minded enthusiast who have chosen to post with civility and in the spirit of uplifting others. Fanning imbues the character with plenty of personality: providing Coraline with a clear sense of character. For the rest of the time Selick flies solo, and luckily so, as he fires of all amount of information somewhat like a Gatling gun – it comes thick and fast on everything about the production, story, design, meshing technical information with anecdotal stories – it's almost too much too quick. This added with the animation of the puppet, especially the changing costumes to express the far more arachnid aspect of other mother, and you have a very sinister character.

On top of all of this the 3D effects are top notch, especially the scene where Coraline enters the "opposite world". So when you get an entire feature film made in that painstakingly slow process I get pretty excited! Pressed on a BD-50 disc, the disc is housed in a standard case with an identical slipcover in a two-disc Blu-ray + DVD release. The kooky neighbors garner some mild interest, but she soon finds out that the house has a tiny door in the wall that has been wall papered over some years ago. Review System: Denon AVR-X4300H, MK Sound LCR750 and SUR55T, XTZ S2 Atmosphere ceiling mounted, SVS PB-12 Ultra. In terms of video quality, Coraline arrives in the 4K UHD Blu-ray format with one spectacular visual presentation. transfer - that’s not much of a difference over the already very good 2009 Blu-ray counterpart released by Universal.

You really have to do a lot of pausing, staring, and disc flipping to find the "oh yeah there I can see it" moments. The sound effects are used appropriately for the height channels as well this time around with the new Atmos mix. But when this fantastical adventure turns dangerous and her “other” mother tries to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness and bravery to get home. The new 4K remaster was done with supervision by LAIKA Studios, as I’ve mentioned before, and that adds a lot. This is necessary for when other father is being controlled, he is still full of the sympathy needed to express the concern for Coraline, the outer body may be a bloated vision of horror, but that voice still wins our hearts.
