About this deal

Sovina was one of Portugal’s first craft brewers, first being involved in the sale of micro-brewery equipment before creating their own beers! Similarly to Letra, they have a simple style and really let the great beers speak for themselves. Definitely try their Hellesstyle lager, its one of the best. Cerveja Nortada

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in. I am going to make a bold guess here: “Letra” is Portuguese for “Letter”. I say this because every beer in their craft-beer range has a different letter. You have “Letra A” which is a blonde ale, “Letra B” which is a Bohemian Ale, then you have C through G. In that there is an oatmeal stout, an IPA, an Imperial stout, an IPA, and a couple of other beers. Letra has been brewing beer since 2013, and though its range is quite small compared to many craft beer breweries, compared to Algarve and Sovina it is practically bursting! Musa Birra Moretti is the main brand, a 4.6% abv pale lager launched in 1859; followed by La Rossa is a 7.2% strong dark lager or dunkel. Other brands include Doppio Malto, Baffo d'Oro, and Sans Souci. It also has a number of bottled beers named after regions of Italy, such as Piemontese, a 5.5%ABV fruit beer. In 1950, the name of the brewery changed to Brasserie et Malterie Almaza. In 1960, the second generation of shareholders took over the management of the brewery. After the Lebanese Civil War in the 1990s the brewery took its final name: Brasserie Almaza. [ citation needed]Furthermore, Pilsners have a specific fermentation process that differs from a lager. Lastly, the ingredient profile of a Pilsner isn’t always the same recipe as a lager.

For a country with such a small beer scene, Portugal sure has a lot of beer festivals! Okay, it may not be able to compete with England (which has a beer festival every weekend as far as I can tell) but I was still surprised. Obviously, at this time of writing (2020) all beer festivals are understandably on hold, so I’m using information from 2019 to base my research on. Porches Craft Beer Festival (June) Sagres is primarily a surfing destination, but there are sheltered pristine beaches for relaxing on, and an unassuming cool vibe about the town. Day-trippers are drawn to Sagres by the Cabo de Sao Vicente, a remote and bleak headland, aptly fitting for the most south-westerly point of mainland Europe. So, Sagres 0.0% Puro Malte is a pretty average lager, but that’s no bad thing. An easy-to-drink non-alcoholic beer is what a lot of people want, and this has both of those points covered. It also has an additional point of interest with the momentary detour into weissbier country that the taste takes us into. And whilst it’s a short trip, it’s not unwelcome. Birra Moretti was founded in Udine in 1859 by Luigi Moretti. Heineken acquired the company in 1996, selling the brewing plant to the new Castello beer company. [ citation needed] There are eight beers under the Birra Moretti brand. [7] As the cost of living in Portugal is quite low, so are the prices of beer. Of course it depends where you go as most touristy locations will charge a little more but in a typical café or restaurant (“Tasca”) you can buy an “imperial” for around €1. It’s not uncommon, especially during the height of summer, for people to mix beer with a soft drink. The most common combinations are: Sagres– the original sagres is still one of the best. Pale lager in its most simple but delectable forms. Situated in the Algarve region of Portugal, Porches is 16km from Albufeira. The craft beer festival here is relatively tiny, boasting 2,000 visitors in 2018. What I love about this beer festival is that it is housed in a German Style Beer Hall. Imagine drinking a small craft beer, but you’re in a German Oktoberfest style beerhall, but the beerhall is in a tiny village in Southern Portugal. With Portuguese serving staff dressed in traditional Bavarian outfits, while speaking English. This truly is the end game for globalisation. Almeda Beer Festival (July)Starobrno (Pivovar Starobrno), is a brewery in Brno, Czech Republic, founded in 1325 by the Old Brno monastery. It is now owned by Heineken. [ citation needed] The main brand is Starobrno, a 5% abv pale lager. Pelforth, an ale, was first brewed in 1935 using two different types of malt and English yeast. The name came from "Pel" for pelican, "forte" for strong, because it contains a lot of malt (43kg/hL), and the h added to give it an English feel. In addition to the Blonde (5.8% abv) and Brune (6.5% abv), Pelforth Amber (6% abv) was introduced in 2003. The Pelforth brewery also produces George Killian's, a 6.5% amber or Irish ale. Among connoisseurs, it is "famous for its strong speciality beers". [20] Skopje Brewery [ edit ] NEWEurope (1 March 2003). "Bravo International to be renamed Heineken Brewery". New Europe . Retrieved 3 October 2019. Sagres has a long-term sponsorship deal with the Liga Portuguesa Futebol, the highest level of professional football (soccer) in Portugal. As a result, the league was officially called Liga ZON Sagres. Besides that, Sagres beer is also official sponsor of many professional teams, like Benfica, Braga, Olhanense and Académica Coimbra.
