About this deal

The omnidirectional mic sounds fine. We had no issues understanding every word from a test recording on an iPhone. Bluetooth audio artifacts are minimal in the signal and the mic sounds highly equalized to focus on the human voice. The latter effect might make you sound a bit unnatural, but it certainly helps improve clarity on calls. USB charging cable (30 cm (12”), USB Type-A / USB Type-C). Audio cable (1.2 m (3.9’) /3.5 mm (1/8”) gold-plated stereo mini-plug (3 pole/L-shaped)) Enjoy a sonic signature tuned to reflect our wired studio monitor headphones wherever you go. The ATH-M20xBT has a multipoint pairing capability that lets you connect wirelessly to two devices, optimal for multimedia use. The wireless headphones are also equipped with a low latency mode that improves the synchronicity between audio and video for smooth streaming and gaming. All media was tested on my Google Pixel 6 Pro, Samsung Galaxy Note S22 Ultra, and MacBook Pro. AAC and SBC audio codecs allowed for smooth streaming on Apple Music and Spotify. Advanced codecs such as aptX, aptX HD, and LDAC are not supported for enabling the best audio quality over Bluetooth. Audio-Technica ATH-M20xBT review: Noise isolation

Make sure the indicator lamps on both headphones light in red and then turn white before releasing your fingers. Reset is complete. If you’d prefer, you can switch to the low-latency mode in the Audio-Technica Connect app, where you’ll also find your battery life displayed and a broad selection of useful customisation options. In addition to a five-band equaliser, you’ve got the option to cycle audio codecs, adjust the left/right balance and toggle sidetone and guide sounds on or off. You can see the influence of the M series headphones on the audio quality. Audio Technica says that they have ‘studio sound’ and while there's definitely room for improvement, I’d be inclined to agree with that. It's worth knowing that they aren't quite as accurate as pricier options like the M50xBT2.Audio-Technica ATH-M20xBT

Fans of bassy music will be pleased to learn that there’s a decent amount of weight to the ATH-M20xBT’s low-end reproduction and that it avoids stifling mid-range frequencies. The bassline in Foghat’s “Slow Ride” thrums along nicely, making its presence known without getting in the way. At the other end of the scale, the treble is generally clear and detailed. I did experience mild distortion in Shinedown’s “Dysfunctional You” at maximum volume but it’s unlikely you’ll ever find yourself needing to go above 80%, so this isn’t much of an issue. One of the very best things about the Audio-Technica ATH-M20xBT headphones is their battery life. You get 60 hours of listening time per charge, and if you plug them in for just 10 minutes, you’ll get about 3 hours of use. Naturally, those times will vary on usage and volume. Make sure the indicator lamp is flashing rapidly in white, and press and hold the power supply / control button and the volume up button (+) at the same time (for about 6 seconds).Audio-Technica estimates that the headphones can last roughly 60 hours on battery—that's an excellent claim, but your results will vary based on your typical listening volume levels.

Although we cannot vouch for the sound yet, we're intrigued to see if Audio-Technica can score a home run here –if so, there's very little standing in their way…If you did get caught short then the Audio-Technica ATH-M20xBT come with a 1.2m audio cable included in the box so you can listen through a wired connection instead.

Personally, I prefer the less-hyped tuning of the M20xBT compared to M50, and if you are sensitive to upper frequency, the M20 might be a better option. Having said that, the M50xBT2 is a more premium headphones with more features like LDAC, custom EQ, better build, so you pay for better features with limited-edition colour options. Plus, music played on M50 is much clearer, the highs are more articulated and precise. Its tuning is more likable to the general listeners. Given that Bluetooth operation requires fitting chips, power and batteries inside the headphones, the first surprise is how light the new wireless headphones are, at 216 grams – that’s just 26 grams over the non-wireless version.Audio-Technica knows a thing or two about making good over-ears. The company’s more expensive products are a staple of studios and stages around the world, known for durability, clear sound, and good value. In form, the new M20xBT fit squarely inside the company's well-trodden design language. They are simple, utilitarian things.
