Bradshaw, Peter (15 May 2004). "What a Carry On!". The Guardian. London . Retrieved 12 December 2010. This is classic British comedy at it's best! This DVD box set contains all 30 hilarious Carry On movies, plus a host of DVD extras! Morris Bright and Robert Ross (2000). The Lost Carry Ons: Scenes That Never Made it to the Screen. Virgin Books. ISBN 1-85227-990-7.

Screenwriter Michael Pertwee completed two scripts entitled Carry On Flying and Carry On Smoking– with the latter being based on life within a fire station. Peter Rogers was not keen on either film idea as he was worried that a potential disaster involving either an aeroplane or a fire could happen while the film was on general release. [30] Rogers commissioned a new script from Talbot Rothwell who initially completed a draft for a camping-themed film. Again, Rogers was not keen and asked Norman Hudis to adapt a film script from a short story written by Eric Barker based on a group of holiday makers on a cruise in the Mediterranean. Rothwell's camping script was filed away and used five years later for Carry On Camping. [31] Filming on Cruising began on 8 January 1962 and lasted two months. It was the first film of the series to be shot in colour and was released in April 1962. [32] For six years Sergeant Grimshawe has been a training sergeant but never the proud leader of a Star Squad. He accepts a bet from another sergeant that in the next intake, his last before retirement, his squad will pass out top. But when he’s lumbered with a motley crew of inductees, Grimshawe suspects he hasn’t a chance of winning the bet. Carry On Nurse (1959) The remainder of the series developed with increased use of the British comic traditions of music hall and bawdy seaside postcards. Many titles parodied more serious films, such as their tongue-in-cheek homages to James Bond ( Spying), westerns ( Cowboy), and Hammer horror films ( Screaming!). The most impressive of these was Carry On Cleo (1964), in which the budget-conscious production team made full use of some impressive sets that had been created in 1960 for the Burton and Taylor epic Cleopatra (1963) but abandoned when production moved to Rome. Carry On Emmannuelle, inspired by the soft-porn Emmanuelle, brought to an end the original Carry On run.In The Movies it Doesn't Hurt (1975)". British Film Institute (BFI). Carry On going strong: Farces of nature", The Independent (online edition), 19 March 2008, accessed 22 July 2013 Snelgrove, Kevin (2003). The Carry On Book of Statistics. Somerset: KAS Publications. ISBN 0-9544200-0-4. Carry On Camping scored a number one at the box office for 1969 [66] and became infamous for the sequence in which Barbara Windsor's bra flew off during early morning exercises. So risqué was this scene, that Ireland banned the film on its domestic release. [67] Camping was filmed between October and November 1968 and held its premiere on 3 July 1969. [67]

Carry On Spaceman (1961), scripted by Norman Hudis and planned to be released shortly after Carry On Regardless. Satirising the Space Race, the cast was to consist of three would-be astronauts who constantly bungled on their training and their mission into outer space; most likely the trio would have been played by the trio of Kenneth Williams, Kenneth Connor, and Leslie Phillips that had been established in Carry On Constable. Attempts to revive Carry On Spaceman in 1962 under Denis Gifford, again by Hudis, failed, and the project was subsequently abandoned. The sexual aspect in these films, as per my previous review, is more aimed at promoting matrimonial sexual relations. Where you see nurses parading in underwear by the end of the film the male and female leads fall in love with one another, or reaffirm their passions and emotions. That verse the Benny Hill films and TV show which pushed the level of sexuality and sexually oriented jokes a few degrees higher. Tanya Gold (28 September 2007). "Infamy? They've got it". Carry On Sergeant (1958) The sinister Dr Watt has an evil scheme going. He's kidnapping beautiful young women and turning them into mannequins to sell to local stores. Fortunately for Dr Watt, Detective-Sergeant Bung is on the case, and he doesn't have a clue! In this send up of the Hammer Horror movies, there are pastiches of all the horror greats from Frankenstein to Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. White, Jim (17 March 2008). Filmed on location in Snowdonia, North Wales, Carry On...Up the Khyber was the only film of the series to venture out of England for filming. [63] Up the Khyber was voted 99th in the British Film Institute's poll of the finest 100 films ever made. [64] Despite the tight, two-month filming schedule, it took three days to complete the final dinner scene. [16] Filming began in March and finished in May 1968 and the film was released in August 1968. [63] Rogers and Thomas were responsible for all 31 films, usually on time and to a strict budget, and often employed the same crew — some of whom were also regulars on the James Bond series, such as Peter Lamont, Alan Hume, and Anthony Waye. Between 1958 and 1992, the series employed seven writers, most often Norman Hudis (1958–1962) and Talbot Rothwell (1963–1974). Anglo Amalgamated Film Distributors Ltd produced 12 films (1958–1966), the Rank Organisation made 18 (1966–1978), while United International Pictures produced one (1992).This is classic British comedy at its best! Starring: Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtrey, Jim Dale, Joan Sims, Barbara Windsor, Hattie Jacques, Windsor Davies, Valerie Leon, Peter Butterworth, Bernard Bresslaw, Terry Scott, Bill Maynard, Phil Silvers, Patsy Rowlands, and Frankie Howerd. Carry On at Your Convenience was known as Carry On Round the Bend outside the United Kingdom and was the first box-office loss of the series. The failure was attributed to the film's political theme about the trade union movement as it portrayed the union activists as incompetent troublemakers. A profit on the film was not made until 1976 after several international and television sales. The film was the first of two Carry On's to star Kenneth Cope. In the song Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others by The Smiths, one of the lines is "As Anthony said to Cleopatra, as he opened a crate of ale, oh, I say", making reference to Carry on Cleo. Carry On Smoking (1961), revolving around a fire station and various attempts to train a bungling group of new recruits.

Carry On Robin (1965), a spoof of Robin Hood starring the Carry On regulars. Rogers outlined the film and registered it with the British Film Producers Association but never pursued it any further. [14]
