Magin, Ulrich (February 10, 2002). "Nazca – Ein Flughafen für die Götter?" (in German). Mysteria3000. Archived from the original on June 28, 2022 . Retrieved March 20, 2017. Anyway, since I have you on tenterhooks with all those questions above (is it aliens? it must be aliens, right?), here's a few answers for them, which von Daeniken somehow overlooked:

Shermer, Michael (July 2013). "How Beliefs in Extraterrestrials and Intelligent Design Are Similar". Scientific American . Retrieved March 15, 2017. Roughly about one third of his book is basically, “ they helped us, we can go out there and help others in the same way they helped us“.Descriptions of some Nazca line photos in Chariots of the Gods? contain significant inaccuracies. One, for example, purporting to demonstrate markings of a modern airport, was actually the knee joint of one of the bird figures, and was quite small. Von Däniken said that this was an "error" in the first edition, but it has not been corrected in later editions. [29] [32] a b c d e f g "Playboy Interview: Erich von Däniken". Playboy. Success!

Chariots of the Gods? spawned multiple sequels, including Gods from Outer Space and The Gods Were Astronauts. The theory in the original book is said to have influenced a variety of science fiction books, films, and television series. For instance, it is considered the inspiration for the History Channel television series, Ancient Aliens. [39] Moricz told Der Spiegel that there had been no expedition; von Däniken's descriptions came from "a long conversation", and the photos in the book had been "fiddled". [24] During the 1974 interview, von Däniken asserted that he had indeed seen the library and the artifacts in the tunnels, but he had embellished some aspects of the story to make it more interesting:

R.Z. Sheppard (2 August 1976). "Books: Worlds in Collusion". Time. Archived from the original on 20 February 2011 . Retrieved 21 January 2012. Key Point: The fact that something might be possible is not the time to believe it. The only time to start believing something is if there is evidence for it. Ojibwa (29 September 2013). "Ancient Egypt: Misconceptions About the Pyramids". Daily Kos. Kos Media, LLC . Retrieved 2 November 2017. What daring imagination invented the 'Open Sesame?' incident in the tale of Ali Baba and the forty thieves? I could rant on the stupid theories in the book but I will let you do it yourself. Although many of the theories are nothing but wild postulation, the subject matter is interesting. I have always been intrigued about the possibility of alien life, so, crazy as this guy is, its a fun subject.a b Lingeman, Richard R. (March 31, 1974). "Erich von Daniken's Genesis". The New York Times . Retrieved March 20, 2017. Ironically the author doesn't show the same common sense while discussing myths that we cannot understand. Instead of trying to understand and study deeply about it, he tries to put forward the myths, gossips, and controversies as facts and theories without any solid research. A geologist found no evidence of artificial tunnels in the area. [24] Father Crespi's [ who?] gold artifacts, according to an archeologist consulted by Der Spiegel, were mostly brass imitations sold locally as tourist souvenirs. Von Däniken also claims that Egyptians built perfect pyramids from the beginning, but numerous pyramid precursors survive, showing the errors made and corrected by Egyptian architects while they were perfecting the technique. These include simple mastabas, the Step Pyramid of Djoser, and the so-called Bent Pyramid. [ citation needed] Before we deal with some monumental buildings which raise innumerable questions, let us take another glance at the old texts. It's more of a pamphlet that raises questions. The author raises some important and intriguing questions, but I can't recommend that readers pay for a book of questions.

Myths are not considered the product of human imagination. Myths should be examined not from the point of view of art, but from the point of view of science, and from the point of view of space. His second book, Gods from Outer Space, was written while he was in prison and was not as popular as the first. Nevertheless he was riding the bandwagon established by the first, and while it was actually his and not the work of some other writer, it still got published. The topics of aliens and ancient civilizations have been hot topics for conspiracy theory perpetrators for a long time now. We can see a similar discussion in this book. What is perhaps not so well known is that none of these claims by Däniken were original to him. As explained here … Von Däniken's books have been translated into 28 languages, and have sold 60 million copies worldwide. From his books two full-length documentary films have been produced: Chariots of the Gods and Messages of the Gods. Of the more than 3,000 lectures which Erich von Däniken has given in 25 countries, over 500 were presented at universities. Fluent in four languages, Erich von Däniken is an avid researcher and a compulsive traveller, averaging 100'000 miles each year to remote spots of the Earth. This enables him to closely examine the phenomena about which he writes.
