No split screen view: Unfortunately, even though you can pair up to four cameras, the DRX 8 Pro does not support split-screen viewing like some in its class. But, you can set it to scan cameras every 10 to 60 seconds, or you can choose whichever camera you want to view. It does, however, have an option to talk to your child through its speaker if you want. The two-way talk function can easily be accessed by pressing and holding the microphone button on the parent monitor. The sound only goes to the camera that is currently selected, so don’t risk waking up your child in the other room. This a "non-Wi-Fi closed-loop system," as it says on the box. The DXR-8 Pro, like its predecessor, isn't using the internet at all, so there's virtually no lag. Infant Optics claims the Pro has a 50% better signal range than the previous version; popping up the antenna on the monitor helps with that.

Infant Optics has also improved the transmission range by 50%, where the range increased from 700 ft of its predecessor to 1000 ft. This means you should have a reliable signal from anywhere within your home. So, highly recommmend from A to Z. Don’t think you can go wrong with this! Also you can pair up to 4 cameras to the one monitor. We just move the camera around during the day, but you could install one in the nursery, on in the living room, and wherever else you like - and switch between them all with one monitor. We considered unorthodox ideas like using a GoPro or an old smartphone as a baby monitor, but the success of those ideas really depends on what equipment you already have; we wanted to get a clear recommendation that will work for everyone. The only caution here is that you may not be able to connect the DXR 8 camera as the plugs are different. From the 360p standard definition, the video resolution has been upgraded to a hi-definition 720p display. The LCD screenon the parent unit has also been expanded from 3.5 inches to 5 inchesallowing you to see clearer and more details. It also has better brightness. The images are sharper and more colorful, which makes viewing your kid more pleasing to the eyes.

Nap time is the reason we own baby monitors. By the time your little bundle of joy is sawing logs mid-afternoon, you’re usually more than ready to take a break and do something other than sit quietly in the corner. A baby monitor lets you close the door (so you can make some noise) without worrying that you’ve abdicated responsibility. We love our babies, but it’s great to be able to love them from the comfort of a downstairs sofa while they’re asleep in their cribs.

The screen size of the parent unit for Infant Optics DXR-8 is 3.5 inches, it’s not the best but adequate for most parents. The biggest complaint, however, is the resolution. The standard 640 x 480 video performs good enough during the day but becomes blurry when the lighting is poor. Vava also shines above others because it supports split-screen viewing when monitoring multiple cameras (two cameras at a time), a reliable long transmission range of up to 900 ft, and an unbeatable large battery capacity that lasts 10 hours on display. It was reasonably priced and showed extremely high reliability and quality, with some decent features. In fact, it was the first baby monitor to offer interchangeable lenses (narrow, regular, wide). Unlike others in its class, DXR8 Pro has interchangeable lenses for different views. It includes an optical zoom lens, and you can add an optional wide angle lens for a panoramic view.Display size: With a video monitor, there’s a big difference between watching a blurry lump and being able to clearly see your baby. My brother bought a stand alone HD 1080p video quality camera to monitor his kids. However, you must have a WiFi connection to set it up on. They also needed a separate audio monitor solution with the setup they chose. Also, they have to monitor the camera with an app, which based on our real-life experience with the DXR-8 would no longer be a consideration for us.

The monitor had a clear picture in day light and more importantly, at night. The monitors range was sufficient for us and we had no problems even after we moved baby out of our room and into her own as our rooms were on different floors. In late 2020, Infant Optics made a huge update to their DXR-8, calling it the DXR-8 PRO and including active noise reduction and a beautiful 5" display with 720p resolution. One thing that concerned us when we first started testing the DXR-8 PRO was the small green power light on the front of the camera (see photo below). A basic lens is integrated, with a metal lens hood for some protection. Unscrew the hood to twist on the included 2x optical zoom lens—handy if you're monitoring across a big room. With the digital zoom (which goes to 3x), you can achieve a full (and blurry) 6x magnification. There are 10 infrared LEDs studded around the lens to provide night vision.

Two of our testers for this comparison are dads working from home, and they’re not alone: 3.9 million employees are now telecommuting at least half of their work hours, which amounts to almost three percent of the U.S. workforce. (And that doesn’t even include freelancers.) A video monitor doesn’t mean you can double up and watch your baby while you’re on a call or working at your computer, but if you’re tag-teaming with another caregiver a video monitor can make life much easier. Important features to consider The camera was actually very light and we hung it up on the wall so it could capture the entire inside of the crib. Again, it was very easy. Answer: It’s ok but not as good as the temperature accuracy of the Nanit Plus or the iBaby Care. In our tests, the DXR-8 indicated a temperature that was a few degrees below the actual room temperature. It wasn’t a big difference, but if temperature accuracy is important to you, you might want to get another baby monitor. Top tier product. Extremely well thought out and designed. We have had ours for 6 months or so. I did a ton of research and review reading before we chose this monitor to include separate stand-alone video cameras and monitors with separate audio monitors. Here’s a summary of the best elements and why you would do well to buy this one.
