About this deal

Electric blankets are widely available to buy in plenty of high street stores and online, from homeware retailers and department stores, and even pharmacies such as B o ots. If we had one complaint, it’s that it does take a while to warm up, and any setting lower than number five can’t really be felt, but this was one of our favourite electric blankets that we, set to become a staple on our beds this winter. It also has a skirt fastening instead of strap, enabling it to be fitted snugly all the way around, with perfectly placed holes for the cables to slot through.

It’s also potentially the most cost-effective of the lot, with Silentnight claiming this costs just 1p in electricity to heat up your bed. HEAT SETTINGS & 10 HOUR TIMER: Choose between the heated throws 10 different heat settings and programmable 10 hour timer to perfectly meet all your heating needs. Whether you are watching a movie on the sofa or relaxing in bed, our heated blanket will keep you perfectly warm and cosy. The six heat settings include a ‘ready for bed’ fast preheat setting that warms up this throw in just five minutes, and five temperature settings from 1 (low) to 5 (high), which you can adjust if you’re getting a little too warm or cold. It also features Intelliheat technology, so it maintains a constant temperature while you’re using it, won’t overheat – there’s no getting hotter and hotter the longer it’s on – and is safe to use overnight on your bed too. WITH nights getting increasingly darker and colder, electric blankets are a popular way to stay warm at night and the best ones may also save you money on your heating bill. Once on, it doesn't quite reach the sides of the mattress, which although this means that it lays completely flat, there are cold spots at the edges.

Highest Rated in Heating Pads

We also found that the cable connector fell in an awkward position on the blanket, sitting either under our pillow or under our feet, and we could feel it when lying down. We loved its super-speedy five-minute warm-up time (by the time you’ve cleaned your teeth, it’ll be ready to go), well-positioned cord connection and good cable length, and three timers: one, three and nine hours. It also fitted perfectly flat on the bed, with elastic straps to loop around the mattress. EXTRA LARGE SIZE & FAST HEATING: With an extra large size of 160cm x 130cm there is plenty of room for two people to wrap up and stay warm with our luxury electric throw. We have used an ultra-long 2.3m cable to allow you to get the comfort and warmth from the blanket anywhere in your room.

How much money one costs to run depends on a number of factors, including what setting you have it on for, what its wattage is and what the current rate for electricity is. The luxurious Dreamland Relaxwell Deluxe Faux Fur Heated Throw is perfect for chilly evenings. The Alaskan Husky style faux fur is incredibly soft and looks fabulous draped over the sofa or the bed. The reverse fabric is in a beautifully soft micro mink fabric. It is the most luxurious way to snuggle up and watch TV and makes a perfect gift. Electric blankets may help you save money on your gas bill by heating just your bed instead of the whole bedroom. The cable connection was unobtrusive, and the cotton fabric kept it feeling breathably warm instead of sweaty. For safety, or to stop you from getting too warm if you do nod off, the throw has an auto shut-off feature which can be set to either 1 hour or 9 hours, giving you peace of mind if you’re using it on the sofa or overnight on your bed.

If you buy your blanket from a reputable UK retailer, as we did for our tests, then it should be safe. A fairly standard design, with corner straps, three heat settings and made from a quilted polyester material (great if you find that the fleecy fabrics make you feel too clammy).

Here are all the items available in the range:

It’s simple but effective, heating up in about 30 minutes and staying warm until we’d dropped off to sleep, and we liked the raised marking on the controls (useful for when fumbling in the dark to switch it off). Cons: Doesn’t cover the whole mattress, no dual control, no timer or auto shut-off, can feel cable connector while sleeping The remote controls feel high quality, and function-wise, there are a ton of functions: dual control, separate zones for the body and feet, nine heat settings and four timer settings. While your heated blanket warms your bed before you even step in, it can also help to maintain your body temperature throughout the whole night. This can help you remain in a deep and relaxed sleep, stopping you from being woken up during the night with chilly toes!

In gorgeous complementary tones of grey and red, this silky smooth Velvety Heated Throw is perfect for cheering up your home – and you, as you snuggle under it, toasty warm, on a winter evening. Or, given that this is Britain, on a spring, summer or autumn evening... It fits well over the bed, covering all except the pillow area, although the outer rim is noticeable under thin sheets. As part of our test, we washed and tumbled dried each of the blankets five times after testing, and then conducted a full electricity safety test. All the blankets passed. There are also some incredible economic benefits to owning an electric blanket. Costing just pennies to run, sandwiching yourself between your electric blanket and duvet is a low-cost way to keep you toasty warm throughout the night. Much better than relying on the central heating to warm the whole house, when settling down for the night, a cost-efficient electric blanket might be just what you need. Heated Electric Throws A good fabric for the price, and made from a sort of dense, felt-like fleece, making it a little warmer than cotton or regular polyester blankets, and it fastens to the mattress with two large elastic straps at the top and bottom.Pros: Wireless, uses infra-red technology so no heat is lost, looks great, useful if working from home If it’s high temperatures you’re after, it doesn’t get much toastier than this teddy fleece one from Dreamland – even level 3 out of 6 was warmer than most others we tested. Some might find it a little too sweaty, but it can also be reversed, and the polyester side used in warmer months.
