Eagan, Daniel (2010). America's Film Legacy: The Authoritative Guide to the Landmark Movies in the National Film Registry. The Continuum International Publishing Group Inc, New York, NY p.22. ISBN 9780826429773. King Kong is a very enjoyable B-movie, with plenty of action. It is worth mentioning that it was made in the seventies and thus contains language and attitudes which are considered inappropriate in modern society, so watch with this in mind. The Art Galleries – Again, the same material as the previously-released DVD, the artwork has not changed.

Surprisingly good though it is, though, it’s not actually the 4K transfer’s resolution that steals the show. That honor belongs to the presentation’s consistently jaw-dropping combination of high dynamic range and an expanded color gamut. In 1749, a waterlogged lifeboat was found in the same area, it was empty, but drawn in blood on the thwart was the likeness of some huge, slouchy humanoid thing. And this strange warning —“From the wedding with the creature who touches Heaven, lady, God preserve thee.” Okay, so first, the color grade: the yellow and teal aren’t nearly as prevalent as it was in StudioCanal’s 4K releases of Cat’s Eye and Red Sonja. Certain exterior shots of blue skies and oceans definitely lay bare how revisionist this yellow-ish grade is, though other shots have strong whites and colors in close-ups. Although a bit problematic, what’s here isn’t enough to soften the many positives found throughout the presentation. Bitrate is also a bit anemic in certain scenes, which I can only imagine is because the three-hour Extended TV Cut is taking up a lot of space on the 4K disc. That being said, I didn’t find there to be any crushing or other issues because of the bitrate. While King Kong’s 4K HDR picture quality is for the most part insanely good, going far beyond anything I’d expected, there are one or two little niggles. For instance, while the film’s ‘finish’ is mostly remarkably consistent for a 4K title that’s been derived from a 12 year old film, there are one or two scenes, especially in the first half, that suddenly exhibit a bit more grain than the rest. King Kong (1933)". Rotten Tomatoes. Fandango Media. Archived from the original on December 30, 2009 . Retrieved March 2, 2018. of increase in clarity is often breathtaking. HDR color improvements are obvious as well. Greater color distinction and vividness are obvious from the The picture really does look stunningly crisp and clean, though - more so than any other 2K upscale I can think of except, maybe, the one used for the 2016 Ghostbusters 4K Blu-ray. This is a great restoration with excellent picture and sound quality and with plenty of special features, it will make a brilliant addition to any B-movie collection.

Picture-in-Picture: Taking from a variety of sources, a small window in the corner shows cast & crew interviews, stage design, lots of concept art, CG work, tons of BTS footage and much more. My only complaint is that the bass channel surprisingly sounds more restrained than some of the ‘massive whumpers’ (that’s a technical term, obviously) I’ve heard with other films in recent months, despite the enormity of the film’s lead critters.Wednesday, WTM • (December 12, 2018). "The Lost Scene from 1933's King Kong - the Spider Pit". Neatorama. Archived from the original on January 28, 2020 . Retrieved January 28, 2020. Recreating the Eighth Wonder: The Making of King Kong– An eight part feature that essentially encompasses the entire film in one fail swoop. The Lost Spider Pit Sequence (HD, 6 min) — This is a recreation of the notorious deleted scene which was removed supposedly because it was too disturbing for audiences. Truth is filmmakers felt it distracted from the main flow of the narrative. In either case, it's presented here as it was originally conceived, which is fairly gruesome for a film made in 1933.
