When ACB shares the daytime sky with ACA, at its closest it adds about half a percent to the total illumination. When the 2 stars are close together in the sky, the effect of ACB's more orange light is unnoticeable. But, as they separate over the years, an orange tint may be seen in areas shadowed from ACA's direct illumination. At its most distant, ACB is about 2,700 times dimmer than ACA and does not produce noticeable lighting effects. However, it still appears as a blindingly-bright tiny orange disk in the sky. The Skimwing ("Tsurak" in Na'vi) is a large Flying Fish like creature. They are primarily ridden by the Metkayina Clan in place of Banshee into battle. They do not form long-term bonds like the Mountain Banshee. They are first introduced in Avatar: The Way of Water, where Jake Sully tames one for battle.

The occultation algorithm ALFM ( Agol et al. 2020) uses a different method to calculate the circle-circle intersect than the one used by Pandora. The standard method of computing the overlap of two circles requires the calculation of a square-root and of two arccos terms. The new “kite expression” replaces the a ccos with inverse a ctan, keeping the same constant factors, while achieving higher numerical accuracy. Our benchmarks in numba and C-language yield identical performance within a measurement uncertainty of 1%. Due to the lower complexity of the standard approach, we decided to keep the classical circle-circle intersect formula in Pandora for now. The improved accuracy of the kite expression is irrelevant for our purpose, as the errors from the standard method are < 10 -8 in all cases ( Fig. 2 in Agol et al. 2020).

Various alternative algorithms exist which could further improve Pandora’s performance. We have deferred the implementation of these for future releases, given sufficient interest by the community.
