About this deal

The stories themselves, however, are narrated by Sláine’s companion: a surly, cowardly dwarf by the name of Ukko. While Ukko is often a thorn in Slaine’s side, his recountings lay the groundwork for the Sláine we come to know: an arrogant but proficient warrior, whose banishment from his tribe – he is sent away as the result of his romance with the Sessair king’s wife to-be – would begin a series of adventures unlike any the world had ever seen before. The Horned God” story combined Mills’ fascinating characters and saga-like storytelling with Bisley’s incredible artwork, and sparked a revolution in sequential comic books, and spawned a multitude of imitators. Even after three and a half decades, their masterpiece is as fresh and startling as it was when it was first published as a weekly serial. Slough Throt – A drune lord who successfully sheds his rotting skin to earn the rank of Slough. He hired Sláine as a bodyguard to escape Slough Feg and deliver the plans for Ragnarok to the Druids of Glastonbury. [17] That's all very well sire but we must look beyond this life to the higher realms... and they cannot be obtained without seing and knowing everything and, unfortunately,it's not possible to see and know everything without suffering everything". The origin of the name Cythrawl, given to the dimension of the "Dark Gods of Cythrawl", Sláine's enemies, can be found in the same passage of Barddas.

As I finish reading this collection for perhaps the 10th time, I find that Slaine is a very easy 5 stars for me. Sethor – Member of Sessair tribal council who succeeded Sláine as High King. He later betrays the Celts to the Fomorians and becomes Odacon's golamh. [9] Mogrooth – Fearsome Atlantean dragon rider and gladiator with enlarged, sharpened fangs. Despises Ukko for his thievery. For those unfamiliar, Sláine is a wandering warrior cast out from his tribe and wandering the mist-wreathed realm of Tír na nÓg, the “Land of the Young”, with his duplicitous dwarf, Ukko. Conal the Handsome – A warrior Sláine punches in the face in an attempt to start a fight. Despite losing all his teeth, Conal is more concerned about the damage to Sláine's hand. [23] At its best, Sláine offers something more than the traditional high-fantasy sword and sorcery stories that had become prevalent in comics before him: a foot in the door of real — and truly magical — mythology. Researched and molded by Mills to reflect genuine myth as well as the adventure and fantasy readers craved, Slaine finds itself nestled among the best when it comes to historical fantasy in comics history.

The Horned God sparked a revolution in sequential comic books and spawned a multitude of imitators, but even after three decades Mills and Bisley’s masterpiece is as fresh and startling as it was when it was first published as a weekly serial.

The Books of Invasions I: Moloch" (in 2000 AD Prog 2003 and #1322–1326, December 2002 – February 2003) Ali, ljudi moji, koga boli uvo za priču kada vidite šta radi ovaj Simon Bisley!!! Kakve su to boje, kakva teskobna atmosfera, kakvi bizarni likovi, koliko krvi, bujnih ženskih izazovnih tela... i naravno razbacani muževni polunagi sirovi Slaine! Malo je reći da sam oduševljena! Čista umetnost. Neko njegov crtež poredi sa crtežom B.Sienkiewicza, ali mene su neke table podsetile i na Frazettu. Now Sláine must unite the four kings of Tír na nÓg and use their mystical weapons as he and the Sessair tribe prepare for all-out war!

As always, Rebellion will be releasing a special webshop exclusive hardcover edition – but this time it will be a box set featuring the three series or “books” that comprised the saga in separate hardcovers. My late husband was a devoted fan of 2000AD and knowing my interest in Irish mythology introduced me to Sláine the Horned God. He also felt that its feminist aspects would also appeal. He was right. Cador – An ancient Druid who built the forcefield that protects Myrddin's territory from the Cythrons. Was killed and replaced by a disguised Slough Feg at some unspecified point in Time Killers.

Colin Morgan is brilliant as the brutal yet cunning Slaine, but it's Gerry O'Brien who steals the show as Ukko the Dwarf." - Starburst Magazine Sláine, the Celtic Barbarian (by Creative Reality, Amstrad CPC, C64 and ZX Spectrum graphic adventure) [27] Slaine is a book of contradictions: it's beautifully crafted, filled with precise artwork of horrors and carnage, and then there are rushed pictures with the character's faces contorted in amusement. It tells an epic tale of conquest and gods and goddesses and there's a horny dwarf that wants to bang the women. It's both a history and a tale already told in destiny, and there are meta-level joke about making the story. This was simply excellent. I listened to it over the course of a morning and was totally enthralled. The performances were outstanding including Colin Morgan as Sláine and Gerry O’Brien as Ukko, the dwarf, who is Sláine’s companion and the chronicler of his adventures. Ukko is very much comic relief with great banter between him and the druidess Nest, who ‘encourages’ Ukko to write down the saga. Nest, who was portrayed by Fiona Glascott, was my favourite character.
