Stafford, town and borough (district), administrative and historic county of Staffordshire, west-central England, lying along the River Sow. It includes a large rural agricultural area and the towns of Stone and Stafford. Proposals for the ‘Station Gateway’ scheme include a hotel, up to 900 new homes, 30,000 square feet of commercial space, a 350-space multi-storey car park, along with retail and leisure facilities on ‘underutilised brownfield land’ around the railway station.
Stafford ( / ˈ s t æ f ər d/) is a market town and the county town of Staffordshire, in the West Midlands region of England. It lies about 15 miles (24km) north of Wolverhampton, 15 miles (24km) south of Stoke-on-Trent and 24 miles (39km) northwest of Birmingham. The town had a population of 71,673 in the 2021 census, [1] It is the main settlement within the larger borough of Stafford which had a population of 136,837 (2021). [2] History [ edit ] In October 1987, Cairns wrote in the Kennel Gazette that "Kennel Club recognition of the breed is shrouded in mystery. Recognition was announced in the April 1935 Kennel Gazette in the name of Staffordshire Bull Terrier. There was no explanation as to how this came about. No Breed Club or Breed Standard existed." [23] Cairns also drew attention to the similarities in the Bull Terrier and Stafford in the late 19th century, prior to the downface feature of the modern Bull Terrier: "At that time 'Bull Terriers' could be registered 'Sire, Dam and date of birth unknown', so in effect any dog could be registered as a 'Bull Terrier'. In consequence, many of the dogs registered were found to be, what became known as Staffordshire Bull Terriers."
