About this deal

Film critic Paul Le concluded that the film "proves the V/H/S movies are still in a class of their own when it comes to macabre, found-footage storytelling." [18] Adam Patterson of Film Pulse stated that "The low-definition depravity of the visuals fit nicely into the underground tape-trading scene by which the film was certainly inspired". He also compared the quality of the film's segments to those of the franchise's previous entries, affirming that V/H/S/94 "is the most consistent of the bunch." [19] Critic Nathaniel Muir praised the originality of each short film, as well as the blending of horror, science fiction and dark comedy, asserting that " V/H/S/94 is arguably the strongest entry yet" in the series. Morris Bush portrays the bounty hunter Dengar, Alan Harris portrays the bounty hunter Bossk and Chris Parsons portrays the robotic bounty hunter 4-LOM.

The sequel V/H/S/99 debuted in the Midnight Madness stream at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival [22] and was released on Shudder October 20, 2022. [23] Another sequel, V/H/S/85, was officially announced later on October 7, 2022. The unintended leak from Rodriguez earlier that year was actually referring to that particular film, produced discreetly alongside V/H/S/99. V/H/S/85 premiered September 22, 2023 at Fantastic Fest and was met with positive reception. It is set to be released on October 6, 2023 via Shudder. Miska, Brad (September 9, 2021). This version was well-cast, and the art direction was also competent. Edmund O'Brien turned in a great performance as Winston Smith. I think that he brought a great quality of desperation to the role; which seemed to run contrary to John Hurt's performance. On Halloween night 1998, Tyler, dressed as a teddy bear implanted with a nanny cam, meets his friends, Chad, Matt, and Paul (dressed as the Unabomber, a pirate, and a Marine, respectively) as they head out to a Halloween party at a friend's house, only to end up at the wrong place. Thinking that they are the first ones to arrive, the quartet sneak inside. They begin to experience paranormal phenomena, but believe that they are at a realistic haunted house attraction and have fun with it.

Trevor Groth, a programmer of midnight movies at the Sundance Film Festival, said, "I give this all the credit in the world because conceptually it shouldn't have worked for me. Personally, I'm bored by found-footage horror films, which this is. And omnibus attempts rarely work. But this one does. It's terrifying, and very well executed." [6] Horror-Movies.ca reported that two people fainted during the premiere at Sundance. [10] Tallerico, Brian. "V/H/S/94 movie review & film summary (2021) | Roger Ebert". RogerEbert.com . And so we return to Reeder’s Los Angeles SWAT team, who end “V/H/S ’94” with such a shrug that it leaves you vexed by how a film this half-hearted could still manage to pump so much blood. These are skilled filmmakers striving to keep themselves busy (and their skeleton crews employed) during COVID, and idle hands have certainly done worse. But seeing this much talent wasted on yet another warped edition of this worn-out franchise suggests that the concept itself is no longer inspiring the people it brings to the table. After nine years and four movies, it might be time to hit the “eject” button on the “V/H/S” series once and for all. Grade: C- Pace, Dave (July 18, 2012). The frame narrative focuses on a criminal gang who film their exploits, which include smashing the walls, windows, and light fixtures of an abandoned house and sexually assaulting women in a parking lot. An anonymous source offers them a large sum of money to break into a house and steal a single VHS videotape. The gang accept the task, eager to expand their criminal enterprises. Empire gave the film four stars out of five, saying that "the biggest twist is its consistently high quality ... anything goes, and all of it works". [16] The Hollywood Reporter gave the film a mildly positive review, stating "Refreshingly, V/H/S promises no more than it delivers, always a plus with genre fare." [11] Fangoria praised the film while remarking that "the mystery of why/how some of this stuff is even on VHS tapes to begin with" was a bit of a leap. [17] The ultimate job of policing film releases in the UK had always lay with the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification), who now had to oversee the home video market as well. The man in charge was the notorious James Ferman, a strict unforgiving type who resided over the BBFC from 1975 until 1999. Not only were certain films banned outright, but a raft of changes swept through the whole UK movie market. He was famous for hating Nunchaku’s, making the producers change the TMNT title to ‘Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles’ and some of Bruce Lee’s most iconic fight scenes involving the weapon were removed from releases. A group of 20-somethings, Joey, Spider, and Samantha, accompany their new friend, Wendy, on her annual trip to a lake located in a nearby forest. Joey films the group as Wendy leads them through the woods, occasionally mentioning "accidents" that took the lives of her friends. When the camera scans certain areas, glitched images of mutilated bodies appear in the film. They also discover the mutilated corpse of a pig nearby, shortly before Wendy mentions that everyone is going to die. Relaxing and smoking weed by the lake, Wendy tells the others that the lake is the same place where a murderer killed many people years earlier, but the group laughs it off as a joke. In terms of the movie itself getting green lit — the storyline that runs through the whole movie was something that we had originally discussed. So we just went with the decided upon streamlined story and just let the filmmakers go do their thing. Which is kind of a reverse of how you're supposed to do a movie like this. You're supposed to do that last. It became a 'fill-in-the-hole' type project. What can we put here? What can we put there? You know, what would amp it up here? So it was a living project. A living film if you will. Plot [ edit ]V/H/S/99' – Shudder Presses Play on Fifth Entry in the Bloody Disgusting-Produced Anthology Franchise from Studio71!". July 28, 2022.
