About this deal

The set includes six minifigures with equipment: Luke Skywalker with a blue lightsaber, General Veers with binoculars, two AT-AT drivers with blasters and two Snowtroopers in white camouflage clothing. In the same way, as in the movie, key battle scenes can be re-enacted or new missions can be created. For example, Luke has a winch to pull himself up to the AT-AT's hull. In the belly is a fold-out floor hatch that young Skywalker can open to drop a thermal detonator into the AT-AT's interior. Playable Interior and Design Details Minifigures: C-3PO, Hoth Rebel Trooper, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Snowtrooper x2, AT-AT Pilot, General Veers

Posing the AT-AT requires some patience – if you position one of those legs wrong, it will start sliding and end up floored. Nice positioning is definitely possible thanks to multiple joints in each leg, as long as you take your time. Getting subtle leg shifts in place is incredibly satisfying as it does leave the machine looking as if it is about to take a step, especially when the head position is also taken into account. — Characters — The interior undoubtedly remains cramped and placing the minifigures inside can sometimes prove challenging. Nevertheless, this internal configuration represents an improvement upon earlier models and I am particularly pleased that the designer has still found enough room to incorporate basic controls which surround the minifigures. With a model like this, which has four skinny legs, you always worry about stability. While the Lego AT-AT is actually pretty stable, you do need to make sure you don’t adjust the legs too far, or you may find your model toppling sideways. We tested this one, on a hard floor, and actually didn’t break the AT-AT too much – a few pieces of armor, foot, and leg came away, but it was easily fixed. Should you buy the Lego Star Wars AT-AT?The design itself is not as good as it should be. I think it looks rather crude and unfinished with all the large gaps between the panels and sections. The dark grey coloring, however, really suits this vehicle and I wish I could see the old Imperial AT-AT in this color as well. The second positive feature of this set was the movement capabilities. Unlike the previous two models, you could bend the legs in various different angles and also swing the head around. Although these features were present, it was still quite troublesome to change the posses without breaking it. Six years is a long time in LEGO design, so 75288 AT-AT has the potential to offer something worthy of fans’ attention. — Set details — The final product will not come apart unless you are really careless but the designers could have done a better job nevertheless.

Unusually, those heads differ when the helmets are removed. The classic Clone Trooper designs have been replaced with generic components, returning from other characters but suiting these minifigures. The smirking face is particularly interesting as that only otherwise appears on Tom Riddle from Harry Potter Magical Treasury: A Visual Guide to the Wizarding World. Despite their appearance, the two exterior hatches cannot actually open. Instead, the central armour panels are connected to Technic beams inside, allowing them to move upwards and reveal the interior. This vehicle is exceedingly spacious, containing sand blue seats for five Snowtroopers. Their unusual colour matches both 4483 AT-AT and the Star Wars: Complete Vehicles reference book which is delightful. LEGO has produced five large-scale AT-AT models since 2003, varying quite significantly in appearance and construction. 75288 AT-AT looks particularly distinctive and features unique proportions, with an enlarged head and fewer dramatic angles across the troop compartment. The resultant vehicle appears authentic when compared with the movie and looks absolutely spectacular on display. These inaccuracies are disappointing, especially since LEGO has produced appropriate attire for Snowspeeder pilots before. Nevertheless, the torso and legs are both highly detailed and Luke's helmet looks good, featuring Rebel Alliance symbols alongside authentic hazard stripes. The dual-moulded helmet from 75218 X-wing Starfighter remains exclusive to the 2018 set.
