About this deal

The HORSTMANN CENTAURSTAT 7 ROOM THERMOSTAT is a genuine, brand new Horstmann Controls product, covered by a Horstmann Controls manufacturer's guarantee. To complicate matters we've just had some building work done and I'm not sure I can access this central wiring point any more - which is a whole other nightmare if it is the case) As for the boiler end, I'm not too sure there. We have an electrician friend who can look at that as I probably won't touch if it I'm not sure about it (boiler is on it's own seperate RCD btw).

Cheap drill bits do not cut well when they are brand new and don’t cut cleanly either. It will make the job slower and more difficult. It can be challenging to identify if a cheap drill bit is doing a good job because they can work great on lighter materials. Once you go to use it on the heavier stuff, however, you will run into an array of issues that will frustrate you. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) My understanding is that the Hive receiver talks directly to the room stat and turns the heating on only when both the timer programme and the wireless stat indicate a call for heat (so rather than effectively having the programmer and stat in series in a traditional system, the Hive receiver is the one switch point for the heating).

Manual

See what you mean about the link now - think I remember the plumber pointing that out last year. I'll have a look this evening and see if I can locate it easily - pretty sure I need to follow the thermostat diag (as opposed to the programmable version).

There is a long list of brands that excel in specific tools, but don’t do so well with others. One company that is fantastic across the board is Screwfix. Of all 28 products there were a total of 11 that were more expensive and 16 that were cheaper than Horstmann Centaurstat 7 Room Thermostat. The Drayton Wiser heads claim to have algorithms which work out how long it takes to heat the room, so can move from an eco to comfort setting far faster, but also cost more. There is also EvoHome and Tado. Hive is an odd one out, with no ability to use OpenTherm, but mainly boilers can't work with OpenTherm anyway so may not be an issue. First of all, many well-known brand names tend to boast about their flagship tools in television, trade magazines and online ads. They tend to make the harder jobs look extremely simple when using their specific brand. Of course, the basis of this is to help sell their product. So is this a realistic representation of what the tool can do for you, especially if you’re just starting out? The answer is no. Different skill levels and experience has a significant factor in the effectiveness of a tool, as well as other things. When working at heights, never leave tools lying out in the areas where they could present a hazard to the people below.I can probably experiment my way through this, but my better half is likely to be a bit unhappy with me having the heating switched off for an extended period while I work this out on a cold November weekend! Therefore I'm trying to do the research beforehand).

Wear clothing that fits well. Loose clothing or accessories can get caught in a tool’s moving parts, which could result in dire consequences. Cheaper brands, such as those you would find in high street bargain stores, will have been mass-produced with lower grade materials which allow the low price tag. Though that may sound good for your bank account, you will soon discover you have a tape measure that slices your fingers, screwdrivers that don’t fit in the cross slot of a screw and a hammer grip that is slipping from the handle. Right - spotted the thermo connection diagram - just as you said really (I'm guessing I'm not using the programming side given the stat is a battery opereated unit?). You may have to pay more than the cheaper or disposable options on the market, but you will be thankful if a near miss or accident occurs and it was your PPE that reduced or avoided the injury. Work BootsJust so I'm sure, by disconnecting the RL and R1 and then re connecting via the stat, am I essentially creating a new 'switch' (controlled by the heat tempurature) rather like connecting a PIR (which I'm doing in the bathroom)?

Ok - it's all working fine thanks...suprised myself really...thought it would take our plumber friend a visit in a couple of weeks. It's not the ideal time to test at the moment, as with the ceilings down we feel the cold down here, whilst the kids in the bedrooms above were getting toasted earlier The Horstmann CentaurStat 7 Programmable Thermostat is a single channel 7 day room thermostat which is suitable for use with both combi boilers and conventional applications.Install Hive with the old room stat temporarily bypassed rather than removed (just in case it doesn't work out for us).
