About this deal

The Diageo Archive will be gathering stories – and the Pimm’s and Balmoral Platinum Edition bottles - from this historic moment to place alongside a treasured collection of pictures, documents and items from royal celebrations over the decades, including the first bottles and advertising to carry Her Majesty The Queen’s Royal Warrant, a picture of Her Majesty in Scotland during the 1953 Coronation tour, and the John Walker & Sons Diamond Jubilee Blended Scotch Whisky, the legacy of which continues to support excellence in British craftsmanship through the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust. If one were to nudge ahead slightly, it would be the Johnnie Walker Gold Label 18 yo whisky. I found the Gold Label richer and somewhat more complex, with an outstanding balance. The Platinum Label is easier to drink and more approachable.

Platinum Label is an 18 year aged, mature blend which combines sophisticated and contemporary tastes with classic Johnnie Walker flavours. First, it’s sweet with a warm vanilla undertone and hints of tangerine which then transforms into nutty, malty dryness, finishing with a soft charcoal smokiness. What to Mix with Johnnie Walker Platinum Label?

The flavour

Description — In the glass, Johnnie Walked Platinum Label has an amber-sherry color and moderate legs at 80-proof. In September 2021, Diageo launched the Johnnie Walker Experience building in Edinburgh to take advantage of the growing scotch tourism trend. However, readers should note this is not an active production facility but rather an immersive multimedia experience used as an educational tool to educate guests about the brand’s history and tradition. Maturation Johnnie Walker Aged 18 Years is presented in a newly-designed, “sophisticated” bottle with gold detailing.

The illustrious Johnnie Walker Blue is the brand’s premium blend. This one contains some very old and rare whiskies and tastes a little bit smoky, a little bit sweet, with notes of soft sherry, honey, toffee, and barley. It’s almost dangerously easy to drink—and one of the most coveted whiskies around. This is one of those cases in which a non-age statement (NAS) whisky is more elevated and mature than its age statement counterpart — which is significant when you’re going against an 18-year-old bottle of scotch! By blending different single malts and grain whiskies from different regions of Scotland, the brand is able to create different flavor profiles, from sweet and smooth to smoky and peaty. The Johnnie Walker Gold Label whisky brings notes of barley, apricot jam and cinnamon. A fruity sweetness with creamy oak. The Johnnie Walker Platinum Label whisky brings brandy-soaked fruit, orange and light smoke. The finish on the Gold Label is longer and more satisfactory than on the Platinum Label.Single malt scotch distilleries range from historic 18th-century buildings to gleaming, brand-new modern buildings launched among the current craft whiskey renaissance. However, all single malt distilleries have one thing in common: copper pot stills, which are required when making single malt whisky.

Johnnie Walker has an expansive portfolio of scotches, offering several different blends to suit different budgets and tastes. They are identified by different colors and form a sort of Johnnie Walker hierarchy. Honey and apricot jam, hints of malt and cream, toasted oak spices with smoky hints. Bits of cinnamon and dried fruit, wonderful balance between sweet and spice. Next up, we have Johnnie Walker’s Red Label, which is the world’s best-selling Scotch whisky due its bold, characterful flavour and accessible price point.

In the battle of Johnnie Walker Platinum Label vs Gold Label whisky, both contenders are champions in their own right, offering distinct yet equally enchanting experiences for whisky enthusiasts.
