About this deal

Demoni risalenti a epoche remote, prima dell’uomo e prima dei T’lan Imass e dei loro acerrimi nemici, i Jaghut. What has changed: Erikson has grown as a writer’s writer by this third novel in the series, and it shows. His character definitions are more focused, and I feel, more robust with less weight, if you will. You will engage with them, appreciate their unique point of view and motivation, and even at times, understand why they do what they do and what they sometimes don’t do. While the war descriptions and writing are less than the previous novels, they are rich, descriptive battles that more than make up for their smaller size, in my opinion. Less can definitely be more. As much as I truly love his writing, it was a journey of growth from the first to the tenth novel, and you’ll experience and enjoy that here. He begins to enter his own, and starts to take his place as a fantasy writer of extreme note. His writing is more natural and connected, more unified as a novel. If you have yet to be convinced of this, after reading the first two novels in the series, Memories of Ice should definitely clinch this for you. Solid. I haven't read an author more inclined to have his characters suffer than Erikson. I mused in my review of the previous book in this series (The Deadhouse Gates), with all the starvation, rape, murder, and mass crucifixion that took place in the story, where does Erikson go from there? What does he do to increase the tension and deepen the depravity? The Chained One, an unknown Ascendant (also known as the Crippled God) (First mentioned) [12] (First appearance) [8]

I know you have seen me, friend, my lined face and silent regard, the cold calcretions that slow my embittered pace, as I walk down the last years, clothed in darkness as are all old men, haunted by memories... The Road Before You Of course my favorite character in MoI stays Captain Paran ❤ Struggling to accept a new role and fighting severe battles inside and outside himself he was a bit annoying sometimes, but always surprising and lovable, especially seeing his growth as a character step by step. Priva di pathos, come se tutta la carica e la tensione fossero esplose con il tradimento avvenuto prima della battaglia, la morte eccellente che ha fermato il tempo sia nella lettura che nella storia. Oh and a candy to James as promised ;) I was a bit annoyed when Erikson made one character disappear and even made me think that this person is dead! Thanks god this great character was returned :)Well played, sir! But what now? There's seven or so more books. What's left? Holocaust denial and a sub-prime lending crisis? Some of the other characters we meet include: Silverfox, Gruntle, Stonny, Korlat, and Itkovian. (Yes, there are a lot more, but give me a break! If you want a full list, read the book!) MoI is the third book in the epic series about Malazan. It’s really epic as I haven’t read any such other series with quite long books, so many characters and many plots/subplots. Moreover things are now really starting to make sense for me when I finished MoI! :D But I’m just a silly lass so don’t mind these words. You may feel different about the book :) They were human once, these women. They lived in villages and towns no different from this one. They were wives and mothers, tending their homes and yard animals. They danced, and they wept, they were pious and respectful in propitiating the old gods. They lived normal lives.”..."

The Second Gathering of the T'lan Imass takes place. Silverfox seeks to give the undead warriors a new enemy to fight, but they instead ask to be released from the ritual. Silverfox accuses them of abandoning her, and refuses to release even the T'lan Ay.Paran actually has a really interesting arc going on and some unexpected changes in him. While I don’t get everything that his new ‘position’ entails I think it means that he will be a big player at the end. I was really excited for him to be reunited with Tattersail in the form of SIlverfox but alas that actually ended up being one of my least favorite parts of the story….again see #6.

This book definitely hits the high point of the series so far - the sophistication of the plot and the elegance of the writing both establish that clearly. In this book, the investment that the reader is asked to make in the first two books finally reaches its pay-off, and it is a massive one. There are heroic moments of awesome, and tragic, heart-wrenching losses. This is not a story for the faint of heart. We learn through Anomander Rake and Caladan Brood that they, along with other Ascendants, were responsible for the chaining, thinking it was the only feasible solution at the time. Both the Crippled God and the sorcerers of the Pannion Domin use the warren of Chaos. Rake doesn't think this is a coincidence. If Burn dies, they realize, her warren will be the pathway to the other warrens, and the Crippled God will destroy them and as a result, destroy all magic. The destruction, Brood suggests, won't stop there. It is rare that a prologue can deliver on the promise of being relevant, but this certainly does it. Silverfox walks in the Tellann dreamworld and meets the Rhivi spirits. Her plans to use the dreamworld to return her mother to youth are all in ruins after Itkovian embraced the T'lan Imass. She is so bitter with the sense of failure that when the Rhivi spirits tell her she can still save her mother, she turns away in shame instead of talking to her. Tool and Lanas Tog meet Silverfox, and Tool asks her to return the Ay to life. She does, and Tool asks her to return him to life as well. She does. Lanas Tog then takes Silverfox to the rest of the T'lan Imass, and she offers to undo the Ritual of Tellann. They say not yet, speaking of plans to accompany Lanas Tog to rescue their kin trapped in the far-off war. Silverfox asks to accompany them. Pran Chole tells her that Itkovian's gift will allow them to return to their memories when the Ritual is eventually undone, something they didn't expect.
