About this deal

Overall: A- ( A very good option to the highly cushioned training category. Many of these types of shoes feel like clouds that you are balancing on, but this shoe feels like a traditional training shoe that you can run almost every run in that has all of the maximalist qualities you could want in a shoe.) The upper is a single engineered mono mesh with a gusset for the stout tongue and no overlays beyond the colored 3D Spectra printed overlays.. Saucony Triumph 21- The excellent Triumph from last year gets a new upper that dials in the fit for an excellent overall ride

Derek: At first glance, you would think this is a single density, all Nitro foam trainer. Actually it is a dual density setup, with the Nitro foam above, and a firmer more stable foam called Profoam Lite below. I don’t have any information on this foam, but it feels like compression molded EVA. Derek: I wear US9.5 in both shoes, though I probably fit a US9.0 best for the Magnify. Both shoes have similar underfoot feels, with Magnify feels softer at the forefoot. I think the Triumph fits me a little better overall, but the Magnify has the more interesting midsole feel. It’s a bit of a wash, but this is one of those cases where (especially in the middle of a long training run where you are tired and you just want to get it over with) you really want a simple fit where you are not constantly thinking about where you are feeling pressure from the shoe. In that respect, even though the Magnify rides better, the Triumph 19 is just a more straightforward put on and forget about it shoe for me. Sam is the Editor and Founder of Road Trail Run. These days he runs halves in the just sub 1:40 range training 30-40 miles per week mostly at moderate paces on the roads and trails of New Hampshire and Utah. He is 5’9” tall and weighs about 164 lbs if he is not enjoying to many fine New England IPA.

The Magnify Nitro SP has a nitrogen-infused midsole to promote high rebound and durability. Lakota Gambill

Reasonable weight at about 10 oz / 283g for such a big shoe at 40mm heel / 30mm forefoot : Sam / Dominique Stability: B(Stability isn't bad, but it isn't great. Softer platform makes it a little more unstable and the slight translation of my foot in the midfoot region medially decreases stability through that region as well. ) The overall feel is that of a lightly springy shoe, more so in forefoot than heel, that has plenty of stability. Amphipod Hydraform Handheld Water Bottle: Perfect for long runs when you need hydration in the summer The source of that springy, pillowy cushioning is Nitro foam, which is infused with nitrogen and layered over a slab of EVA-based Profoam Lite. We’ve seen other brands infuse nitrogen into midsole foam, as well. The Hyperion Elite 2 and Aurora-BL, two noteworthy shoes in Brooks’s Blue Line, feature the nitrogen-infused DNA Flash and DNA Loft v3. Similarly, New Balance’s FuelCell and Reebok’s Floatride Energy use nitrogen-injected TPU foam (thermoplastic polyurethane) and TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) beads, respectively.Speaking of stiffness: the midsole is also less flexible compared to the Novablast 2. The latter rolls better, although I can see the Magnify Nitro working for people who prefers a last-second lift-off: the firmness of the sole could help add extra propulsion. The lace eyestay and heel counter are all reflective material so Magnify has lots of reflective surface area, a very good and important add. Personal: A ( My trainer of the year so far. The transition is fantastic, the midsole/ride is smooth and this seems to work very well for my mechanics. Even though it looks like it shouldn't. I would like to see the midfoot a bit wider in the next version though) The Asics Novablast 2 is not a light running shoe; as a matter of fact, it’s heavier than the original Novablast. However – and interestingly enough – the extra foam actually makes the Novablast 2 a more stable running shoe. Dominique: PumaGrip rubber creates a durable platform with firmer rubber in the heel and blown rubber in the forefoot. A decoupling groove enhances the forward motion of the foot upon landing on the firm rubber in the right lateral side of the heel with a toe-off on softer and bouncier rubber in the left forefront of the foot.
