About this deal

Have you noticed your cat litter box has become smelly over time? Despite how regularly you clean the box, odors and bacteria can build up in the base over time. Plastic litter boxes are especially problematic because plastic absorbs odors and stains.

This is also an extra large stainless steel cat litter box, and the largest product available. Its dimensions are 23.6 inches by 15.7 inches, large enough for all breeds. However, despite being the largest in terms of length and width, it is the shortest by height, sitting at only 5.9 inches tall. Because of this, I would recommend choosing a high sided cat stainless steel cat litter box instead if you have a messy cat. I have two big cats: a Savannah (F5) and a Maine Coon. Neither one fits well into a standard litter box. Remember, your litterbox can’t just be the same size as your cat, either. If you don’t scoop the litter box often enough, bacteria will start to break down urea and it will get smelly.Has a non-slip bottom. It has four rubber pieces at the bottom to prevent the box from sliding around while using it. Even though most cats prefer an open litter box, that might not true for your cat. And if your cat happens to be a “digger”, you might want to keep the litter from scattering everywhere. None of these litter boxes have a hood, but if you want a stainless steel litter box that is covered, you can find the solution in the DIY Hooded Litter Box-section. Top 3 stainless steel litter boxes iPrimio Ultimate Stainless Steel Cat XL Litter Box As a general rule of thumb, your cat’s litter box should be 1.5x the length of their body, not including their tail. This gives your cat enough space to move around without feeling restricted while ensuring they still feel enclosed and safe when going to the bathroom. This litter box is only 5.9 inches tall, making it the shallowest on this list, but it does come with a corner splash guard to protect against splashes. Unfortunately, this does only cover two of the sides of the litter box, but still offers pretty good protection against splashing and spraying.

It holds a huge amount of litter too. If you have a teeny cat or one that struggles to hop out, just put more litter in to raise the height. For example, if you use wood pellet litter, you’ll know that it breaks down into dust when it gets wet. This makes it difficult to remove all the soiled litter when it’s wet. Another benefit is that most stainless steel litter boxes are made from one piece of metal with no seams or joints. This means there is nowhere for bacteria or germs to hide out and multiply. If you’re looking for the ultimate in hygienic litter boxes, stainless steel has to be top of the list.Tip: Make sure you’re using a stainless steel litter scooper as well to make it even easier! Lasts forever By having the correct number of litter boxes, you won’t have so much cat pee concentrated into a single box. 8. Use Stainless Steel Litter Trays

The compact size is also an excellent choice for small cat breeds and owners with limited space in their apartments. I had this self-cleaning one (not robotic, but you’d tip it and it would send the litter into a pan) that my cats wouldn’t go near. It ended up getting recycled because I couldn’t return it. Make it a gradual transition: Cats can be sensitive to changes in their environment, including litter. When introducing a new cat litter, do it gradually. Mix a small amount of the new litter with the old one, increasing the ratio of new litter over several days until you have completely switched to the new litter. If you don’t mind spending a bit extra on a more premium litter box, you could do a lot worse than the ModKat Top & Front Entry Litter Box. It feels reassuringly well made and it has a detatchable rim that creates a lip on the inside of the litter tray. This prevents litter from spilling over the sides as your cat digs and moves their litter around. That said, moving litter around is one thing, but it won’t stop your cat from booting it everywhere if that’s their style.

The only downside (aside from no lid, which as we said is common to all stainless steel boxes): it only comes in one size. Also, ammonia degrades plastic. This is why you often get those smelly white stains on the bottom of plastic litter trays. In fact, scrubbing them can make it worse. By scrubbing, you scratch the plastic even more, which perpetuates the problem.

It’s more affordable than other models because it comes with excellent extras, such as the splash guard and the metal scoop. Even though you may notice the price tag a bit higher than your average basic plastic litter box, consider the fact these should last a lifetime. Since you won’t need to ever replace these, they’re more than affordable comparatively. More eco-friendly alternative Expensive-You might be forced to spend a little more money than you are used to when it comes to acquiring these boxes. Most actually cost double as compared to plastic ones. While there are exceptions (I’ve seen some crazy expensive plastic boxes that weren’t even self-cleaning), overall a steel box costs at least double the price as plastic. Many of these pans have options for the depth – anywhere from 1.5” – 6” – so if your cat is old or has arthritis and needs a lower entry point, you have the option. (1.5” is too low to actually hold and contain enough litter, but 4” would still work well). Update International Steam Table Pan
