About this deal

A fabulous Story, it made me shriek with laughter and I loved every twist and turn." Valentina Harris, Author, Chef and International Cookery School Host. I love Caroline’s style of writing – the humour really is infectious throughout her writing.’ Sarah ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Caroline James always wanted to write but instead of taking a literary route, she followed a career in the hospitality industry, which included owning a pub and a beautiful country house hotel. She was also a media agent representing many celebrity chefs. Despite being set at Christmas, this novel is the perfect beach read. (After all, it’s always summer in the Caribbean!) It’s substantive enough to be satisfying, and light enough to zip through in a weekend. Great read!

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonists are Jane Bellwood, Anne Amberley and Kath Taylor. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything. In Caroline James’s fabulous new novel, The Cruise, Jane, Kath, and Anne are three single women in their sixties who decide to ditch the winter weather in the UK and go on a Caribbean cruise for singles over fifty.

In summary, “The Cruise” is a fantastic novel full of girl power for the over sixties. It is a perfect reminder that we can live our lives to the fullest, regardless of our age. So, if you are looking for a fun, light-hearted read that will leave you feeling uplifted, then I highly recommend this book. These women decide to embark on a two-week luxury cruise around the Caribbean, leaving behind the heartache, guilt, and disappointment of their real lives. They swap their mundane routines for crystal waters, white sandy beaches, and smooth golden rum. Through their adventures, they discover new friendships, new looks, new confidence, and even new love. The story is an excellent portrayal of friendship, adventure, and love that will undoubtedly leave you feeling fulfilled.

Caroline is a natural story-teller with a gift for humour in her writing." The Write Stuff, London Book Fair. Book Blog Tour & Giveaway: Finding Comfort by Kimberly Fish | Boys' Mom Reads! on Book Review & Giveaway – Finding Comfort by Kimberly Fish

The Cruise' is superbly written but then I have come to expect nothing less from Caroline James. Caroline has an easy going writing style that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact, reading one of Caroline's books often feels more like a chat between friends rather than reading a book. I hope that makes sense. I love the way in which Caroline so vividly and so realistically describes her characters as she makes them seem just as real as you and I. As I mentioned before, I felt as though the characters had become friends of mine rather than fictional people in a book. I love the positive message that Caroline sends out through the story, which is that growing old doesn't mean that you have to stop having fun. I love the way in which Caroline makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action. That's how I felt anyway.

I recently had the pleasure of reading “The Cruise” by Caroline James, and I must say that it was a lovely read. This novel tells the story of three extraordinary women, all of whom are in their 60s and refuse to let age hinder their zest for life. The book is a perfect fit for this blog, The Grey Brunette, as it shows us that age is just a number, and it is never too late to pursue your dreams and enjoy life to the fullest! While I am not single (I’ve been married forever), I fit the over-fifty demographic, and I really appreciated this fun, feisty, sometimes flirtatious story. Fifty may not quite be the new thirty, but contemporary fifty- and sixty-year-olds are definitely healthier, more energetic, and ‘feel’ younger than they did when our grandparents were that age. It was so refreshing to read a story that really understands that, that I was hooked just from the concept. Anne on #Review: The Last Train from Paris by Juliet Greenwood @julietgreenwood @Stormbooks_co @rararesources #blogtour #newrelease #histfic #WW2 #TheLastTrainfromParisBut I think my personal favourite (so far…) might just have been her first book with One More Chapter, The Spa Break – a wonderful fun-filled story of female friendship, and of sheer bravery as each woman took the opportunities and chances they were offered, gained a different perspective on their lives, and realised what they had been missing (you’ll find my full review here– and yes, of course it was one of my 2022 Books of the Year!). Could there be any better way of spending a wet Saturday afternoon than curling up with her latest?
