About this deal

I'm a guilty feminist. There, I said it. I believe strongly in women's rights, but seldom dare to voice this fact, for fear of being considered 'one of those types'. As such, this book was of great interest to me! I loved it though and should be mandatory reading for all/most feminists in the western world. It's also given me more confidence to get out there and take up space and not apologise and can the whole 'if it's okay, if you don't mind, I know you're busy' shit.

The book is handily broken down into chapters and feature reoccurring themes. The author encourages those interested in the feminist cause to create change and promote action. The chapter focusing on confidence and saying “no” was particularly interesting. It certainly caused me to reflect on aspects within my own life that are privileged and yet I have always taken for granted.I’m thrilled to announce we are bringing Big Speeches to you! From the comfort of your home you can take our course that will boost your confidence and help you take your space in any room. As always we work with the breath, the body and the voice but we are also asking new questions… How can we be charismatic online? How do we build or restore confidence after these unprecedented times? How do we engage with people in space again without fear? a b c Bromwich, Kathryn (30 October 2017). "From Dirty John to Mogul and the Guilty Feminist: best podcasts of 2017 part 2". The Guardian. ISSN 0261-3077 . Retrieved 3 November 2017.

I feel it's my job, as a privileged woman who is not suffering under the most oppressive forces, to do more than let my anger out in random, undirected bursts. I need to turn my anger into influential words and persuasive ideas wherever possible" She makes it clear that she doesn’t care if people sometimes disagree with her views – the aim is to amplify the female voice per se. Indeed, the credo of The Guilty Feminist podcast (“A microclimate that gives more power, space and assumption of brilliance to women”) comes through loud and clear, with Frances-White including highlights from the show, and interviews with past guests. The result is a passionate, funny, fresh, thought-provoking read, as engaging as it’s informative. Towards the end, Frances-White observes: “Every day of my life, I’ll wake up and not be perfect. I’ll always do and think less-than-feminist things until the day I die.” The point being that Frances-White sees the funny side of her feminist stumbles and misfires, and she wants other women to relax a little too. I believe in the resistance as I believe there can be no light without shadow; or rather, no shadow unless there is also light. [7] Frances-White aims to create diverse and inclusive panels of guests. [2] Reception [ edit ] Once upon a time, history was written by men, for men and about men. Women were deemed less important, their letters destroyed, their stories ignored. I have never listened to "The Guilty Feminist" podcast but after reading some of the interviews in the book and learning about Deborah Frances-White's life I will definitely give it a go!

Had a fantastic day… If you’re a (feminist) woman or non-binary person who wants to work on being able to occupy space, to use your voice and make yourself hear, this is a fantastic chance to do so.” – Reubs Walsh I went into this book not knowing what to expect. In all honesty, I saw this book in the "New release" section in Waterstones, and as soon as I saw the word "Feminist" on the front cover, I thought "Yes Sister! I just HAVE to buy this!" The first fiction book in our list of Best Feminist Books to Read in 2023, The Handmaid’s Tale was popularised by the hit TV show. Fiction? Maybe so. But the suffering and repression of women depicted in this book feel all too real and not as dystopian as we would all wish to be true.
