About this deal

Last but not least, in What Was I Scared of? the cute, little, nameless protagonist is afraid of a pair of pants that walks around by itself, because it's so different than anything he's ever seen before. When he realizes that the pants are as scared of him as he is of them, the two are able to offer comfort to one another and become friends. I thought this was another great story about the importance of accepting those who are different from ourselves. Las ediciones rimadas y en español de los clásicos de Dr. Seuss publicadas por Random House brindan la maravillosa oportunidad de disfrutar de sus historias a más de treinta y ocho millones de personas hispanohablantes en Estados Unidos. Los lectores podrán divertirse con las ediciones en español de The Cat in the Hat (El Gato Ensombrerado); Green Eggs and Ham (Huevos verdes con jamón); One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish (Un pez, dos peces, pez rojo, pez azul); The Lorax (El Lórax); Oh, the Places You’ll Go! (¡Oh, cuán lejos llegarás!); How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (¡Cómo el Grinch robó la Navidad!), y Horton Hears a Who! (¡Horton escucha a Quién!). Tall Poppy Syndrome: When the plain-bellied Sneetches actually gain stars, the original Star-bellied Sneetches are outraged. With all Sneetches the same, they can't be the "best" Sneetches, so they remove their stars and claim plain-bellies superior to maintain the hierarchy. After this process continues over and over however, even the original Star-bellies realise it isn't worth it and accept equality.

Too Many Daves is about a mother who named all of her twenty-three sons Dave. I have to admit that I wasn't entirely certain of the meaning behind this one, but I think it was about how we are all the same and yet each one of us is also unique. Here, is the same concept (eight years before) just using stars in the bellies (curiously enough, a couple of decades before, in our messy world, stars were used to make look people as different, just in that time, nobody would want to interchange stars).

Geisel, Theodor (1961). The Sneetches and Other Stories. New York: Random House. ISBN 978-0394800899. An iconic collection of original stories from Dr. Seuss that includes the official versions of "The Sneetches," "The Zax," "Too Many Daves," and "What Was I Scared Of?" This is a beloved classic that deserves a place in every child’s library—from the bestselling author of Horton Hears a Who!, The Lorax, and Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

Beware the Nice Ones: The plain-bellied Sneetches took the star-bellied Sneetches mean attitude on the chin for years. When they finally get stars however, they are infuriated to find the original star-bellies took off theirs and declared plain-bellies to be the top clique just so they could continue gloating and looking down on them. In retaliation they resort to following the "snooty old smarties" into every machine they go into to try and maintain the hierarchy, adamant they accept them at last.
