This could be looked at as a positive but it could be looked at as a negative. Portra 400 is more true to life than Ultramax. Ultramax has a significantly noticeable look when compared with Kodak Portra 400. And while it’s more expensive than both Gold and ColorPlus, it’s not like you’re walking around wasting a roll of Fujicolor Pro 400H on decisively missed moments. Ultramax 35mm film has an ISO of 400. This means that it can cope with all of the most common lighting situations, and is known as a mid-speed film. One of the nice traits that UltraMax 400 has colorwise is the fact that the color intensity is evenly distributed. You will not find that some colors stand out more than others. The balance is perfect. In comparison, Fuji Superia 400 is more biased towards the reds and the greens. A good number of the images I got with Ultramax were shot in the morning and afternoon sun, and the film reacted to that with good contrast. The sharpness is also nothing to complain about, bearing in mind what we’re shooting with here.

Another advantage that ISO 400 has is that it allows you to use freeze your subject with crisp details intact. Since UltraMax is already sensitive enough, you can use your lens at higher f-stops and with the camera set at a faster shutter speed. This is a big deal for street photographers.
