About this deal

If you or your child have been prescribed loratadine, follow your doctor's instructions about how and when to take it. The safety and efficacy of Clarityn Allergy Syrup in children under 2 years of age has not been established. No data are available.

Loratadine has no clinically significant sedative or anticholinergic properties in the majority of the population and when used at the recommended dosage. When you have allergies, your immune system mistakes normally harmless substances for dangerous invaders and produces antibodies to fight them. These antibodies release chemicals, such as histamine, that cause allergy symptoms. In patients with chronic renal impairment, both the AUC and peak plasma levels (C max) increased for loratadine and its active metabolite as compared to the AUCs and peak plasma levels (C max) of patients with normal renal function. The mean elimination half-lives of loratadine and its active metabolite were not significantly different from that observed in normal subjects. Haemodialysis does not have an effect on the pharmacokinetics of loratadine or its active metabolite in subjects with chronic renal impairment.

Lactose-free antihistamines for children

Loratadine has no significant H 2-receptor activity. It does not inhibit norepinephrine uptake and has practically no influence on cardiovascular function or on intrinsic cardiac pacemaker activity. Clarityn Allergy Syrup relieves symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis (for example, hayfever), such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose and burning or itchy eyes in adults and children over the age of 2 years. The syrup may also be used to help relieve symptoms of urticaria (itching and redness), which is often known as hives or nettle rash. The effect of Clarityn Syrup will last a whole day and should help you to continue your normal daily activities and sleep. Clarityn Syrup alternatives Has a potential for abuse less than those in schedules 1 and 2. Has a currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States. Abuse may lead to moderate or low physical dependence or high psychological dependence. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's nearly time for your next dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the usual time. Adults and children 12 years and over: 10ml (4mg) every 4 to 6 hourly. Maximum daily dose: 60ml (24mg) in any 24 hours.

Loratadine liquid may be easier for children to take than tablets. The medicine will come with a plastic syringe or spoon to help you measure out the right dose. If you do not have a syringe or spoon, ask your pharmacist for one. Do not use a kitchen teaspoon as it will not measure the right amount. When to take itIf the above instructions advise you to give more than 5 ml of the medicine, repeat steps 1-4 to give your child the correct amount of medicine. Lactose intolerance can sometimes be mistaken for a dairy allergy, but the two differ. Lactose intolerance involves the digestive system, whereas a dairy allergy involves the immune system.

Turn the bottle the right way up, and then gently twist the syringe to remove from the bottle plug. Around 1 in 10 adults and children have a lactose intolerance here in the UK. If we pair that with hay fever being one of the most common allergies, then it makes sense for there to be a wide range of lactose-free antihistamines, right? Can you get lactose-free antihistamines? Elderly: The elderly are more likely to experience neurological anticholinergic effects. Consideration should be given to using a lower daily dose (e.g. a maximum of 12 mg in any 24 hours). Approximately 200 paediatric subjects (6 to 12 years of age) with seasonal allergic rhinitis received doses of loratadine syrup up to 10 mg once daily in controlled clinical trials. In another study, 60 paediatric subjects (2 to 5 years of age) received 5 mg of loratadine syrup once daily. No unexpected adverse events were observed.Piriton syrup contains 6.3% v/v ethanol (alcohol), i.e., up to 497 mg per 10 ml (4 mg), equivalent to 12.6 ml beer, 5.3 ml wine per dose. This should be taken into consideration as it is harmful for those suffering from alcoholism. To be taken into account in pregnant and breast feeding women, children and high risk groups such as patients with liver disease or epilepsy. Chlorphenamine, in common with other drugs having anticholinergic effects, should be used with caution in epilepsy; raised intra-ocular pressure including glaucoma; prostatic hypertrophy; severe hypertension or cardiovascular disease; bronchitis, bronchiectasis and asthma; hepatic impairment; renal impairment. Children and the elderly are more likely to experience the neurological anticholinergic effects and paradoxical excitation (eg. Increased energy, restlessness, nervousness). Avoid use in elderly patients with confusion. Children and the elderly are more susceptible to neurological anticholinergic effects and paradoxical excitation (eg increased energy, restlessness, nervousness) Many allergies can be effectively treated with over-the-counter medications. See your doctor if you have persistent allergies that are interfering with your day to day life if you have severe reactions, or over the counter, remedies are not effective. Approximately 40% of the dose is excreted in the urine and 42% in the faeces over a 10 day period and mainly in the form of conjugated metabolites. Approximately 27% of the dose is eliminated in the urine during the first 24 hours. Less than 1% of the active substance is excreted unchanged in active form, as loratadine or DL.

This medicine contains 1.6mg of alcohol (ethanol) in each 5ml dose. The amount in 5ml of this medicine is equivalent to less than 1ml beer or 1ml wine. The small amount of alcohol in this medicine will not have any noticeable effects. Elderly: Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you take this syrup as you may be more likely to get side effects including confusion and you may need to take a lower daily dose. This medicine contains maltitol liquid. Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance should not take this. May have a mild laxative effect. Calorific value 2.3 kcal/g maltitol.Among these subjects (12 years and older), 1000 subjects with CIU were enrolled in placebo controlled studies. A once daily 10 mg dose of loratadine was superior to placebo in the management of CIU as demonstrated by the reduction of associated itching, erythema and hives. In these studies the incidence of somnolence with loratadine was similar to placebo. For children, your doctor will use your child's weight or age to work out the right dose. Children aged between 6 and 12 years can only take loratadine tablets if they weigh more than 30kg. Give children loratadine liquid instead of tablets if they are under 6 or weigh 30kg or less. How to take it In clinical trials in a paediatric population, children aged 2 through 12 years, common adverse reactions reported in excess of placebo were headache (2.7%), nervousness (2.3%), and fatigue (1%). Lactose is included in most dairy products, which is where the confusion can come from! If you’re intolerant to lactose, you’ll know to avoid things like milk, butter, cheese, cream, yoghurt and ice cream.
