Judgment In some ways, the spec of the AVR-X2800H isn’t that dramatically different from its predecessor. But that’s partly because the AVR-X2700H was already one of the most comprehensive, reasonably priced AVRs available. Whose interest is aroused, however, has to wait a bit: The AVR will unfortunately not appear until September 2020. It should also be mentioned that it also has Bluetooth and can process ALAC, FLAC, and WAV with up to 24-bit / 192-kHz. It is also compatible with 2.8 / 5.6 MHz DSD files (DSD is SACD’s audio coding format). The measurement takes place via the Audyssey room calibration.

We have already reviewed the previous Denon model, but we are fascinated with the introduction of 8K support in this entry device.
POWERFUL 7-CHANNEL AMPLIFIER
In the climactic moment in which the sandworm first bursts out of the sand, the powerful synth elements of the score, piercing brass and booming effects have more separation than with the 2700, where they almost sit on top of each other. This moment can be underwhelming and almost choked on some sound systems, but the 2800 gives a bit of space to each facet for a more coherent, dramatic presentation. It also feels like there’s a touch more dynamic headroom revealing additional detail and helping to create impact through more than just sheer bass. Equipped with a flexible 6 in/2 out HDMI interface, the AVR-X2700H also supports a wide range of High Dynamic Range video formats. These include Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. It also supports HDR10+, which enhances picture realism by sending dynamic Meta data to your TV, as well as Dynamic HDR. In short, whatever the format used by the film, game or stream, the Denon supports it. To us, the Sony is the more interestingly built AV amp, with its asymmetrical dial placement and glossy strip running along the top third of the device, which houses the built-in display. In terms of size, the receiver measures 520 mm in width, 429 mm in depth, and 243 mm in height, weighing in at 11500 g. It consumes a typical power of 500 W, but its standby power consumption is low at 0.5 W, making it efficient. As the baby of the 2020 Denon X-Series, the AVR-X2700H has a slightly lighter version of the Audyssey speaker calibration technology than its bigger brothers. Nonetheless, the MultEQ XT measurements need only a few small tweaks to the levels before we’re happy with the set-up. You can also switch between two sets of Audyssey measurements if you can’t quite make up your mind.
As a member of Denon’s 2020 X-Series, the AVR-X2700H also features Audyssey speaker calibration technology, just like its bigger brothers. However, MultEQ XT measurements require only a few tweaks before we’re completely satisfied with the setup. Another handy usability upgrade for this model is the overhaul of Denon’s graphic user interface to 1080p from 480p. Plenty of brands don’t include a full-screen video output for access to settings at all, but we think it's a nice touch that helps users get to grips with the options available, especially if they’re not having their AVR professionally installed. Once you've set up your HEOS speaker system, you can stream music effortlessly via the dedicated HEOS app. Available for Apple iOS and Android, the app not only lets you stream your stored music but also Internet radio services and popular streaming services such as Spotify, Tidal, Napster and Deezer. There are wonderful details of the bottles, cans and newspapers spilling out of the glove compartment, the revving engine and the maniacal ringing of the railway crossing bell, and then just the still of the cicadas in the night when the clamour suddenly stops.
