Her banter with Nat in the first book and with Declan in this one is simply AMAZING !!!! Impossible don’t make you laugh 😂 Sloane props herself up on her elbows and gazes at me thoughtfully. “We might be looking at this the wrong way.” This was enemies to lovers GOLD. Declan kidnaps Sloane and keeps her captive, only it doesn't go as he planned considering the woman is opinionated, with a razor sharp tongue, and completely fearless. She challenges him at every turn and turns him on at every corner. Their banter was the thing mu bookish dreams were made of. I fell in love with Sloane Keller and her strong, smart, sassy, personality in Ruthless Creatures. She is a woman who owns her sexuality and doesn’t feel bad about using men for her pleasure and always leaves them wanting more. The narrator *swoon. I loved his voice, it really fit how I would have imagined Declan to sound, he made him come to life. Fab job to both narrators.

This aspect didn't bother me as much as in Carnal Urges, since I knew not to take the mafia part of this series too seriously, but it's still laughable. These people are so hopeless, I feel so embarassed for them. I don’t know why I am still surprised. As with the first installment in this series, Ruthless Creatures, I devoured this one with the same hunger and so freaking fast that I wanted more by the end. And as you probably know, I do not read much dark / mafia romance but I love J.T. Geissinger and she is simply killing it with these books. At the beginning, you can’t imagine Sloane and Declan’s relationship working out, because they have a VERY peculiar start, but trust me when I say these two totally belong together. One last thing I want to say is that I liked how Sloane and Declan's story ended but I didn't like the Epilogue told by Kage (Book 1's hero), which made me get really pissed at him.Carnal urges is a perfectly executed project with great writing and even better character development. She was the MVP in Ruthless Creatures and she continues her reign in Carnal Urges. If you take one thing out of my review then that you should read this book for Sloane. She's a queen, she is a badass, she is a savage. She is my spirit animal. Which might have been a smart plan, if Mal didn't get sight of Riley and become fascinated by her. By the time he figures out her connection to Declan, its already too late. He is ready to take her and make her his own little bird. Expect he is going to find that the one who is really ensnared… is himself. And the steam…… well, it is consistent with previous books in the series. She showed off her fighting skills and easily took down one of Declan’s men while they wanted to kidnap her (she broke his nose), and even while under the effect of a drug Declan had used to sedate her, she jumped out of a moving car to escape from them.

I wish we had some previous recent relationship/sexual history, but… eh… I’m gonna assume he’s been celibate and I’ll call it a day 🤣. He rolls on top of me, clamps a hand over my mouth, and growls, “Introduce your top lip to your lower one for a change. And. Be. Quiet.”

I really hated that idea and how Declan played all sides. It was confusing and it was too much to believe and to coherently manage. Also him asking her to join him didn’t make much sense because he only took into account that she’s be good at it not the fact that I genuinely think she would hate it because she is a soft soul.(despite the posturing). And again, despite that spy angle there was literally nothing to the plot. They had sex a lot, exchanged witty barbs then down the line exchanged some flowery declarations of eternal Iove. That’s it and it was underwhelming. One thing you don't do is write a book for a character and then drag them when they are the side character in the next book. Riley and Sloane don't have a great relationship at the beginning of the book. They haven't talked to each others for three years and Riley's perception of Sloane is pretty bad. I love Sloane and reading Riley's chapter it feels like Sloane is a shitty sister and that aint it. Even tho Riley has some valid points when it comes to her 'dislike' of Sloane's character, she comes across as extremely jealous and that didn't make me want to sympathize with her. Riley and Sloane's relationship does get better by the end of the book, but still that aspect irked me bc there are some scenes that make Sloane the bad guy.

With him she could just be, could let him take over and protect her. The gag Declan had placed in Sloane’s mouth to keep her from speaking has been removed, but the handcuffs remain.
