About this deal

Mystery surrounds this Islay single malt scotch, as there are many who wonder which distillery is responsible for producing the whisky. There is little to no information on the distillery responsible and the only information that is available is that it is a series in The Vintage Malt Whisky Company’s portfolio. Loch Finlaggan is a place on Islay that was of great importance in western Scotland during the 13 th to 15 th centuries. Known as the Center for the Lordship of the Isles, the historic Scottish castle was home to Clan Donald; often called the Cradle of Clan Donald. It’s obvious a lot of attention has gone into creating the displays in the visitor centre and it’s really quite interesting, but be mindful that young children are going to find it a bit of a yawn-fest. Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). But even so, I guarantee you’ll walk away having learned a few new snippets of information about Scotland’s history at Finlaggan, and to my mind it’s a fascinating glimpse into the heart of Islay that you’d otherwise miss if you just concentrated on the whisky. This tasted more like a sherry finish than a rum finish. There are your usual suspects: walnuts, baking spices, and dark fruits. Perhaps it’s the general Allspice and fruit sweetness that gives it the swell at the end. It sustains itself a bit more that the first two, as is usually the case with sweeter spirits. Score 6/10

There are three whisky distilleries nearby (Bunnahabhain, Ardnahoe and Caol Ila) that are well worth a visit. Tourist Information Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. We shall first try to settle any dispute over a dram of whisky. Disputes that cannot be settled over multiple drams of whisky shall be solely submitted to the court of Amsterdam, The Netherlands unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise. The bourbon cask finish was my second favorite. I have a lot of respect for a no-nonsense dram. It has everything a first-fill bourbon cask finish is supposed to have; vanilla, honey, apple, mellow oakiness. No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. It’s an average-tasting dram. Its only offense is it’s dull. I’d pour for guests that don’t know anything about Scotch, and they’ll like it just fine. Score 5/10 Fishing in Loch Finlaggan: For those with a penchant for fly fishing, Loch Finlaggan won’t disappoint. Its clear waters are home to brown trout and the water is quite shallow so it’s easy to wade out towards the middle. This was a fun dram because it revealed more to me throughout my week of sipping it, whereas the others plateaued. But there’s so much more to Islay than whisky (although the single malts it produces are nothing short of spectacular), and I think it’s a real shame that so many people obsess over the spirit and completely forget about the history and scenery that the island has to offer. Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. One of the more recent distilleries on Islay. Offers guided tours, whisky-tasting experiences and a gift shop.It took me only about 1 month to finish that bottle of Lagavulin, and I tried to go cheap. I got a Laphroaig 10 and Finlaggan OR. The Laphroaig 10 was very industrial diesel tasting. The Finlaggan tasted watered down. I mixed the 2 and the resulting mix was a train collision that was the worst of both combined.

I started to understand. I started to love it. It was velvety smooth and had so much more complex flavors than the Speyside I was used to. It made Glenlivet bland. Scenic Walks Around Loch Finlaggan: The area around Loch Finlaggan is exceptionally scenic. A leisurely stroll offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills and is perfect for those seeking peace and tranquillity.Palate: Medium body. Alcohol burn upfront betrays its youth. Evolves into rice vinegar, sour candies, silty water, fresh green moss, and a pervading bitter smokiness. A few drops of water goes a long way to tame the alcohol. The water also brings out a little bit of vague fruit. In the mouth: Burned butter Rice Krispie Treats, light mouthfeel, lingering without a coda after explosion, but a ghost of clove. This is done before it hits your throat! Conclusions Visitor Centre: The Finlaggan visitor centre features a wealth of information about the Lords of the Isles and it’s a great place to find out more about the origins of Clan Donald. Things to Do Nearby A visit to Finlaggan is a good way to explore parts of Islay that you’d probably otherwise miss. Visiting Tips
