Tom Hiddleston's Loki has sported many different outfits throughout his lengthy MCU career, though some have expressed his power much more than others. Tom Hiddleston debuted as Loki, the Asgardian God of Mischief and brother to Chris Hemsworth's Thor, in 2011's Thor, and was initially depicted as a minor villain for Thor and the original Avengers team. Over the course of several years, Loki embarked on a redemption arc, though this concluded with his demise in Avengers: Infinity War. When Avengers: Endgame's Time Heist allowed a variant of Loki to be freed, however, this new version also saw redemption in the MCU, as he finally realized his new glorious purpose. Most years we do a family Halloween costume, and it is the topic of dinnertime conversation for months. We usually choose something we are currently obsessed with, and love to find ways to make our costumes unique with cost-effective DIYs (see last year’s DIY Mandalorian Halloween costumes and our Stranger Things family costume from a few years ago as examples). This year we decided on Loki variant costumes! We love all things Marvel (see our kids’ Avengers-themed bedroom décor), and fell in love with this summer’s Loki series on Disney+. Almost as soon as the season wrapped, we started sourcing and making our different DIY Loki costume ideas. I know it might feel early (I mean, it’s just now September), but we were so excited about our family Loki cosplay that we couldn’t wait! I’m sharing all the details for our family’s different Loki variant cosplay: a Loki TVA costume, a DIY Sylvie costume, a President Loki costume, a Classic Loki costume (I probably had the most fun with that one), and an Alligator Loki costume for our dogs. Unfortunately, our pugs do NOT sit still for photos easily, especially when wearing a costume they want no part in wearing. The shape was perfect, so we just needed to do some painting and faux patina to bring my Sylvie cosplay to life. Journeyman difficulty would be to then paint on a basket weave pattern similar to the structure of the original tie. Or for master level craftsmen, you can recreate the textured tie laying and securing individual squares of green fabric on a basic fabric and then using that to create a tie. Leather Accessories: While Boastful Loki’s accessories can be created with foam or worbla, a soft leather or pleather would give this cosplay a more real-life feel.Indeed they should. First, I removed the elastic Velcro strap, then I spray painted the entire headpiece with metallic gold spray paint. Using my fingers (while wearing gloves), I rubbed some oil-rubbed bronze color spray paint into the edges and in various spots. First, I found a front-facing image of Sylvie from the interwebs. Then, I sketched out how I would go about creating the pattern on the tank top. It always had to be Loki. Not because of his thirst for a throne or because he was burdened with glorious purpose (or even because it was his show), but because his character has grown beyond the desire for either thing. We have seen the god who tried to level New York City shift from tyrant to hero not once, but twice now. And, somehow, each journey happened in their own meaningful way without feeling redundant or overplayed.
