About this deal

The lens is also designed for HD video recording, with silent autofocus and aperture mechanisms. The aperture itself is formed from seven rounded blades and features stepless adjustment, to eliminate sudden brightness jumps in movie footage. A bayonet-fitting petal-type lens hood is included in the box, and reverses snugly around the barrel for transport, while the filter thread accepts relatively petite 58mm accessories and doesn’t rotate on focusing. I bought the 12-60 f/3.5-5.6 because Panasonic claims it is their sharpest of the non-premium kit lenses, as per their own MTF charts. I've been thinking of selling both my Pana 12-60 and 12-35 II, and just settling on the PanaLeica 12-60. Maybe I have a really good copy, but I have not been disappointed with my Pana version and just want a little more that the PanaLeica offers. I really liked the article about the Leica 12-60 mm zoom lens, f: 2.8-4.0 vs Olympus Zuiko 12-100, f: 4.0. Congratulations, I believe you took the doubt out of a lot of people!

Shooting assist functions including Luminance Spot Meter, Zebra Pattern can be used during RAW output. John, thank you for taking the time to explain your testing methodology. As a chemical engineer, I understand the need for rigorous testing and to listen to what the test results are telling you. I still just can't get over the fact that the performance of this lens is so far from that of other Panasonic lenses. I also do agree with Lemmy's comments about the mismatch between the test results and the summary conclusion and 'recommended' rating at the end of the review. At the 60mm end the angle of view is 20.44°, which is the same as that of a 120mm lens on a 35mm full-frame camera.

As you commented, I also think that a 24-120 mm range lens is an excellent focal length for the vast majority of shots. Although, I didn’t know about this new release of the Zuiko 12-100 zoom, f: 4.0 and this possibility increased my doubts about which equipment to take. There might be some sample variation and LensTip might not have got one of the best samples, but this sounds different. Chromatic aberrations, typically seen as purple or blue fringes along contrasty edges, are not really a problem with this lens at either end of the focal range. In summary, the lens starts off very strongly at the wider angles, slowly reducing in sharpness as we zoom. The edges never equal the centre, but become more evenly matched as we approach 60mm. At the widest angle, the central sharpness is outstanding. The low distortion and CA figures are remarkable. Ever since the time of introduction, the LUMIX GH6 gained high attention and have been acclaimed after its release to the market not only from the conventional GH users but also from the new GH users worldwide. The GH6 is planned to “evolve” with firmware updates to further enhance its performance and usability for professional video creators, as previously announced. Sample Images G85, 1/320, f/8, ISO 200 G85, 1/2500, f/3.8, ISO 200 G85, 1/200, f/4, ISO 200 G85, 1/125, f/7.1, ISO 200 G85, 1/250, f/8, ISO 200 G85, 1/500, f/4, ISO 640 G85, 1/100, f/4, ISO 200 G85, 1/800, f/5.6, ISO 200 G85, 1/1000, f/5.6, ISO 200 G85, 1/800, f/2.8, ISO 200 G85, 1/160, f/4, ISO 200 My experience is that, when viewed on a full HD screen, across their common range, there is little visible difference in percieved sharpness.

I sold my lumix 12-60 and bought a PL12-60mm just for the f2.8-4.0 and the better zoom feel, buildquility. Parfocal for video. quote]Well, I've just uploaded all the revised technical info for the replacement lens, so hopefu The GH5 II is a hybrid mirrorless camera that meets the needs of all creators, featuring wireless live streaming capability and C4K 60p/50p 10-bit video recording. With this firmware update, wired streaming performance is enhanced to realize high quality video streaming. It complies with RTP/RTSP streaming via wired LAN and via USB tethering to support maximum 4K high resolution livestreaming for both indoor and outdoor use. From what you say, I doubt you would notice a difference. The extra stop is nice, I suppose, but with today's high ISO values and image stabilization one stop is not near as important as it was even 4 or 5 years ago.Unlike many other high-quality standard zooms, including Panasonic’s own LUMIX G X Vario 12-35mm f/2.8 II Asph. Power O.I.S., the 12-60mm doesn’t have a constant-aperture design that enables a widest aperture of f/2.8 throughout the zoom range. The upside is that the zoom range itself is particularly generous, equating to 24-120mm in full-frame terms. After reading your suggestions for my 03 Americas trip project, I will take a closer look at taking a new Olympus OM-D E-M1X camera as a second body. I initially thought to take, as a second body, the new Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III, due to the fact that its handgrip is bigger and more ergonomic than that found in my Panasonic DC-GX9 camera. As for the corners, the results at 12mm are once again very close, even when the two lenses are set to their respective fastest apertures. From 25mm the Pana-Leica becomes a little sharper than the Lumix and this trend continues up to 40mm and 60mm. Would choosing the Zuiko 12-100, f: 4.0 zoom make a very heavy and unbalanced set with the DC-GX9 camera? G85, 1.6s, f/5, ISO 200 – Pana-Leica at 12mm (Dual I.S. II) G85, 1s, f/4, ISO 200 – Pana-Leica at 60mm (Dual I.S. II)

The LUMIX G VARIO 12-60mm F3.5-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. doesn't come with either a lens pouch, but there is a hood included in the box. You can fit 58mm filters to this lens and the filter thread doesn't rotate when focusing. The IS system seems to offer around 2-3 stops advantage, enabling the use of slower shutter speeds than would otherwise be the case. As the light fails this will mean sharper shots, something that is becoming essential for travel shooting.

Buying advice

Although both are small and light enough to be a good match for most mid-to-large sized Micro Four Thirds bodies, the Pana-Leica’s wider barrel may extend beyond the bottom of some smaller models, making it difficult (if not impossible) to mount the camera on a tripod. The Lumix’s barrel, on the other hand, is smaller and will only overwhelm the smallest of bodies such as the now-defunct GM series. Any chance you've used a 12-35mm f/2.8 II? Don't know if I just got a bad copy, but i've not been impressed with mine. Despite their shared zoom range, the Panasonic Leica 12-60mm and Lumix G 12-60mm are actually very different products. The former is a premium zoom whose optical quality is sufficient even for professional purposes, whereas the latter is more easily defined as a kit lens and is likely to be the first zoom a beginner will own. sharpness is very good centre and edge from f/5.6 to f/11, good at f/16 and fair at f/22. Centre and edge have become much more even as we move to the longest telephoto setting.
