Esther really comes alive. The issues she faces are real, and portrayed in realistic complexity. There's humor, and drama, and even disobedience (secrets & lying). It's very common for young women to want to change their looks in some way through using makeup or changing their hairstyle. Being plain doesn't mean that a woman isn't attractive; it just means that her face has no special features that would make it interesting or beautiful. There is no need to wear makeup or do anything else to be plain because your natural beauty is enough.
